- There are limitations on data export based on the range (think sampling)
- Needs more commonly used export formats for their reports
- WebTrends on-premise has a heavy initial investment for licensing, maintenance, and hardware. But once it is running, it just keeps going. Annual maintenance renewals have been our only cost for several years now.
- Up until the last year, WebTrends gave us a good return for our costs -- it allowed us to create the reports that our users requested, and allowed us to reanalyze old data for new information.
- WebTrends suffers in comparison to Google Analytics simply because it is not "free". But I But the experience I have in WebTrends allows it to produce many more benefits for our company.
Wishing I could go back to Webtrends
- We provided analysis that increased our sales 10 percent for our web-based products. We were able to create better products dependent on customer searches.
- We managed vendor participation better. We had a few companies referring people to us, and we were able to track their results and cut the ones that weren't performing.

- This is only negative in terms of workload, but now that more people in the business are aware of what Webtrends is capable of, there are now many more requests for detailed analysis and I'm now finding myself training other colleagues in using it!

- Any analytics product can affect ROI if used well. The impact depends on the analyst far more than the product. Having said that, I've seen companies go from data frustration to data addiction (and big ROI) once Webtrends is working properly for their situation.
- Webtrends Analytics lacks sophistication and speed. This considerably compromised the massive adoption within the organization while I trained more than 100 people. Most of the users preferred Google Analytics for its simplicity of use and analysis capability.
- Lastly, as a previous user of Adobe Omniture Analytics, Webrends is cheaper and easier but the insights you're getting out of the solution are not so actionable if you customize your solution to tackle pain points: content group analysis, various funnel scenarios, link tracking on key pages (home, key destination pages), onsite search with Endeca, product attributes...

- Increased Web Site effectiveness, for both internal employee websites, as well as external customer facing web sites.
Choose a different solution
- Unfortunately, it has had all negative impacts. We miss fraud transactions. We miss broken links. We aren't able to get users to get into the interface because the user experience is poor.
- Even setting up a new report is a bad experience, even for seasoned analysts. It is no less than 5 steps -- and they aren't in the same area. You have to remember to add dimensions in one spot, activate them in another, set up the report, activate it somewhere else, then add it to the profile you want to use. Then you have to wait 12 hours to see if it worked -- and if not, you have start over.

- Ad placement performance - We have been able to leverage the placements of ads on webpages by using Webtrends. For example, ad space 1 in a rotating banner may not be performing as best as ad space 2. If there is a campaign, news piece, contest, etc. that we would like to have more traction with, we could see that an option would be changing it from ad space 1 to ad space 2.

- The strongest positive impact lies in the fact that using a properly set up Webtrends helps make digital advertising campaigns better. From a QA stance, I can see if a click through URL isn't set up properly. From an optimization point of view, I can see which creative and placements are driving the most conversions.
