WeTransfer is a versatile file transfer service that is widely used across organizations for various purposes. Users rely on WeTransfer to send large invoice files in AR, pitches, contracts, and technical reports. Its value becomes evident when users encounter attachment size limits in email clients like Outlook, as it eliminates the problem of not being able to send large files via email. Many users find WeTransfer easier to use than alternatives like Dropbox and Box, making it a preferred method for file transfers.

One key use case is within production teams where WeTransfer is used on a daily basis to send project files and drafts between team members and deliver files to clients. It offers the ability to send larger files than email and is more efficient than using a cloud service. Additionally, WeTransfer proves valuable for sharing files and assets with clients, vendors, and third parties, particularly when they need access outside the corporate shared drive or from remote offices. The free service provided by WeTransfer is particularly helpful, allowing users to send large files up to 2GB to multiple email addresses while providing options for password protection and download expiration/delete dates. Overall, WeTransfer provides a reliable and user-friendly solution for file transfers, especially in cases where email or other cloud storage platforms are not viable options.

Speed of File Transfer: Many users have consistently praised WeTransfer for its impressive speed when it comes to both uploading and downloading files. This quick and efficient performance allows users to seamlessly share large files without any delays or frustrations.

Document Tracking: The feature that enables users to track the status of their shared documents is highly valued by many reviewers. They appreciate being able to see if a document has been opened by the recipient, as well as how many times it has been accessed. This valuable insight helps users stay informed and ensures that important files are being viewed and utilized.

Password Protection: WeTransfer offers the convenient option of password protecting documents, which several users find extremely useful. By adding an extra layer of security, this feature gives users peace of mind knowing that their sensitive information is protected from unauthorized access.

Limited file size limit: Some users have reported that the file size limit of 2GB, unless a premium account is purchased, is too restrictive for their needs. They feel that the limit should be increased to accommodate larger files.

Automatic deletion of files: Users have mentioned that files are automatically deleted after 7 days, unless a premium account is used. This can be inconvenient for those who need to access their files for a longer period. It would be beneficial if there was an option to extend the storage duration or avoid automatic deletion.

Unreliable uploading with weak internet connection: Uploading large files may fail if the user does not have a strong internet connection. This has been frustrating for some customers who rely on WeTransfer for transferring important files. It would be helpful if there were better error handling and retry mechanisms in place to mitigate this issue.

Based on user reviews, here are the key recommendations for WeTransfer:

  1. Users highly recommend utilizing WeTransfer for efficient file sharing, particularly when time is a crucial factor.

  2. It is suggested to consider investing in WeTransfer, especially if one plans to use it for an extended period. The free version has file size limitations, so opting for the yearly rate or subscription is recommended to access more storage.

  3. WeTransfer is praised as a straightforward and user-friendly solution suitable for both technical and non-technical users. Individuals and small businesses can benefit from its capability to seamlessly transfer small videos, photos, or documents.

  4. Many users consider WeTransfer essential for sharing data with colleagues, friends, and family members.

  5. Some users enthusiastically recommend WeTransfer to everyone due to its outstanding features that allow for hassle-free large file transfers without external devices.

  6. For sending large graphic design files and images, users suggest taking advantage of WeTransfer's no sign-in feature.

  7. It is recommended to explore the paid version of WeTransfer for its simplicity and ability to cater to multiple users in a business environment.

  8. If frequent large file transfers are part of your routine, trying out WeTransfer is highly suggested.

  9. While WeTransfer may not offer every feature available in other file transferring software options, it stands out as the simplest and easiest to use.

  10. Users appreciate WeTransfer's intuitive interface, appealing design, and the added benefit of being free to use.

Overall, users' opinions about WeTransfer are positive, emphasizing its ease of use, convenience, and suitability for various file sharing needs.

We have to send very large files, which are usually high-resolution images of artworks that we sell. This is the lifeblood of our business. We prefer Dropbox, but many others we work with prefer WeTransfer. It seems to be most helpful when dealing with a large company that has a firewall and will not allow users inside the firewall to download and install software like Dropbox.
  • Beautiful interface.
  • Useful for those inside firewalls.
  • Generally very speedy.
  • I deeply dislike that I don't know where WeTransfer puts my files after they are downloaded, especially from computer to computer, since those settings are usually different.
WeTransfer is super great for users behind a firewall. But we prefer using Dropbox because we know where our files are at all times, across all devices. Otherwise, WeTransfer is very easy to use and I especially like that the loading screens are frequently different or beautiful or entertaining instead of bland.
  • It's neutral. Image sharing is a key factor for our business, and WeTransfer works in this capacity just as well as the other solution we use, Dropbox.
It's smooth, simple, no problems for sending large files. Receiving files is more complicated and has some friction points to be worked out.
I've never had a problem that I felt was appropriate enough to contact support to solve.
Both solutions work fairly seamlessly. But we prefer Dropbox because we can more easily track our files across devices and across the organization. They are equal when it comes to sending files, but receiving files is where some friction points/frustration points arise.

Our production team uses WeTransfer (Pro membership) on a daily basis to send project files and drafts between our team and to deliver files to clients. It enables us to send much larger files than email and is more efficient than using a cloud service.
  • Transferring large files.
  • Auto expiring links after a set amount of time.
  • Allows branded backgrounds to keep branding cohesive.
  • Possibly a higher paid tier for even larger files.
  • More video integration for branding.
  • Better, more customizable "message" area.
WeTransfer is great for sending files too large for email without having to hassle with Dropbox or another cloud service.
  • It has saved a lot of time in file transfer.
  • The paid pro version has even more so saved us time with larger file sending.
  • It's replaced several separate solutions to now just have one.
WeTransfer is much faster and cuts out a lot of the extra steps of the other services we've used. It can automatically email the recipient when the file upload is done, cutting out a step.
WeTransfer is extremely reliable 99% of the time. There has been twice in 4 years that their service was unavailable due to server outage for several hours.
Very user-friendly and easy.

We use WeTransfer for sharing files and assets with clients, vendors and 3rd parties. It's valuable for sharing outside our corporate shared drive, accessing from remote offices, and especially for download and sharing large files.
  • Sharing large files
  • Accessing files remotely
  • Sharing files remotely
  • Sharing with those who do not have access to our shared drive (clients, vendors, 3rd parties)
  • File limit for the free transfer version sometimes is not enough
  • Chrome can be a bit wonky uploading - sometimes it takes more than once to complete
WeTransfer works well for sharing outside of a shared drive, and especially for large file sizes. The biggest challenge is that there are other options for file sharing and our clients and vendors use many different ones - it would be great if we could adopt just one.
  • Without WeTransfer, or a similar software, sometimes we would not be able to get our work done. We rely on sharing files with vendors, clients and 3rd parties
  • Without WeTransfer or a similar software, working remotely would be more challenging
We actually use both other platforms because we may be required to by our clients or vendors. I find We Transfer easier to use especially remotely - quicker to upload and send.
Without WeTransfer, we could not work remotely and share files with clients, vendors and 3rd parties. We find it to be quicker to upload and send especially large files. More of our collaborators use WeTransfer than other options.
As noted previously, sometimes it can take more than once to upload and share a file if you are using Chrome. It doesn't happen often but of course it always seems to when we are on a really tight deadline. It just takes patient in those cases.

WeTransfer is used across the whole organization for various purposes - in AR we use it to send large invoice files, in sales they use it to send pitches and contracts, and our IT department uses it to send various technical reports with large amounts of data. WeTransfer is extremely useful due to the attachment size limit in Outlook. Even if IT lifts the restriction for outgoing messages, there is no guarantee that the recipient will be able to receive a large file via email. WeTransfer eliminates this problem entirely.
  • WeTransfer is very fast for uploading & downloading.
  • WeTransfer allows you to see if the document was opened by the recipient & how many times.
  • WeTransfer allows you to password protect documents.
  • WeTransfer is extremely secure & safe to use.
  • The file size limit is 2GB unless you get the premium account.
  • Files are deleted after 7 days unless you have a premium account.
  • Large file uploads may fail unless you have a very strong internet connection.
I would definitely recommend WeTransfer - especially the paid version. I feel like all of the shortcomings with the free service (file size limit & content deletion after 7 days) are all fixed when you upgrade your account, and the service is not very expensive. It only costs $12/monthly or $120/annually. WeTransfer makes it so easy to send files, and the additional features such as creating a link to your content & password protection are great. Very straightforward & easy to use.
  • WeTransfer has helped us keep our DSO down by being able to provide invoice copies to our customers immediately. Most of these files are too large for Outlook, so we either need to use a file transfer service or send via postal mail. WeTransfer is obviously the quicker & more efficient option.
While Dropbox does offer features that WeTransfer does not in terms of collaboration & organization, WeTransfer is the better option for simple file transfers. In my experience, WeTransfer is much faster for uploads & downloads. The premium version of WeTransfer also offers a lot of customization options that Dropbox does not.

WeTransfer offers exactly what we needed at a price that can't be beat.
I feel that we did an adequate amount of research & stand by our decision. Would not do anything different.

  • Creating a URL to lead to the documents you wish to share
  • Password protecting a document
  • uploading an extremely large file
Very straightforward software. Anyone could use this service. Extremely user friendly.
