What is Adobe Workfront?
The platform's Capacity Planner allows a manager to move resources to where they are needed, and has some automation features (e.g. the Set Best Fit option, which attempts to allocate resources optimally within given constraints). Agile project management is supported with features like Gantt charts, an easily viewable and manipulable backlog, and storyboarding. Team members can be managed with the aid of quantitative metrics that show where work would be best allocated.
A free trial is available, after which Workfront comes in four pricing options. The lowest tier is Collaboration for small groups, followed by Work which adds mobile accessibility and time sheets, then Plan which adds additional analytic, planning, and reporting features. Finally, Enterprise Plus offers the highest configurability as well as support and data security.

Reviews
(1-25 of 47)Workfront | Best Project Management tool
- Gantt Charts | Reports.
- Help teams to follow Agile.
- Task assignment/Managment/prioritization.
- Mobile app UI experience.
- A bit expensive for small businesses.
A Well Organized Project Management Tool
- Agile
- Task prioritization
- Search bar can be improved.
Workfront for Mid Sized Agency
- Creative Reviews
- Resource Forecasting
- Waterfall Project Management
- Poor mobile app & experience
- Limited flexibilty for rate card management
- Overly complex
Workfront evaluation
- Workfront is easy to configure to send out reports on either an adhoc basis or regularly scheduled.
- Workfront has features to customize notifications so that when various events are trigged, you can configure emails and alerts to keep both IT and business people informed.
- Workfront can generate custom charts and graphs to help provide stats on resource usage, product categorization, etc.
- Ability to customize easily to your companies terminology.
- The gantt charts are very hard to work with and modify.
- The methodology/tools are geared toward a non agile development shop.
- A one page executive status or summary would be extremely helpful, but does not exist.
Workfront is okay
- Alert individuals or groups to new activity towards task completion
- Remind users of overdue tasks
- Flexibility to assign new users/contributors
- Upload documents
- Integrate ProofHQ for client approvals
- Do not like how easy it is for tasks to “get lost” in the My Work section.
- Frequent minor glitches
- Sometimes have difficulty uploading files
My favorite project management system by miles.
- It's easy to stay up to speed with and make changes based on system changes and your organization changing.
- The support team is very nice and professional.
- Setting up can be time consuming if you don't already have a process in place.
- Plan on user adoption to be your biggest hurdle as people are uncomfortable with change.
A Powerhouse For Large Projects
- Ease of use, nice layout, and good colours.
- Most features needed are out of the box, little need for an external solution for project management.
- Graphical representations can be automatically produced from data rather than manually configuring them.
- Other project management tools, though they may be limited, offer excellent solutions for free.
- Workfront benefits from large teams, rather than smaller more intimate teams.
- Not the easiest to pick up for brand new users compared to simpler competitors.
Power of Workfront by HSiddiqui
- We are utilizing four unique stages in our organization to deal with the admission, arranging, and execution of undertakings (ServiceNow, exceed expectations, Smartsheet and Microsoft Project). Getting down to 1 single stage has been a lifeline for the groups that I am on for my organization.
- We had the option to prepare our submitter on one framework, fabricated our very own work processes, and afterward convoluted and prepared our PM's on a similar framework. One Pro I adore is that we can make changes and upgrades at the drop of a hat (well, with the preparing of time), versus ServiceNow, where it took us 2-3 minutes to just change a field name
- Additionally, we appreciate the time and consideration that Workfront has given to my organization. They listen well and issue fathom close with us, not only for us.
- I truly like the authoritative components, but building layouts takes a ton of time. However, once they're fabricated, it makes it simple for mass altering and changing over solicitations into undertakings.
- When it was first actualized, the organization wasn't ready outside of the Marketing division. In the wake of going to Admin Boot Camp, I made a staff preparing system and now client appropriation is a lot higher. I particularly love the inheritance of ventures.
- You can allude to earlier years for repeating occasions/ventures. The help group is exceptionally decent and proficient. Of late, the group has offered calls in the wake of submitting tickets, which I incredibly value. It makes it much more clear on the two closures. Likewise love that all archives, refreshes, and so on live in one spot and not in many disconnected messages.
Workfront for Small and Large Groups
- Approval process.
- Reporting.
- Project insights.
- Allows better customization of the users home page.
- The ability to review proofs with no comments, as it gets messy when there are many comments.
- In reporting or views the ability to easily add fields without the use of TextMode.
Great software for project management
- Workfront helps to promote transparency in regards to project status.
- Workfront allows users to improve communication by utilizing the platform to ask questions, concerns while eliminating the use of emails.
- Workfront keeps centralized and accessible all critical information in regards to a project. i.e. Project risks, issues, budgeting, etc.
- Workfront should take into consideration the intuition of individuals. Some commands commonly used are not applicable within the Workfront platform. i.e. ctrl+F to locate words within a project plan.
- Workfront should consider if it hasn't, the integration of Agile.
Workfront Works!
- One strength is the Legacy Capacity Planning tool. I am actually upset this is being removed, because it has been a tool I use every single day.
- Being able to set predecessors is extremely helpful to plan out a whole project.
- Timelines - creating timelines from workfront with accurate dates is a very easy process.
- One very small but irritating thing about Workfront is that when a project has more than 100 tasks, you have to open the button at the bottom to load all tasks. I wish there was a way to default the setting to show all tasks.
- The speed of workfront could be improved. Sometimes, it just stops loading altogether and I have to wait an hour to try again to update my project.
- I believe the scheduling tool is not very helpful and there would be much better ways we could use a tool for scheduling things.
WorkFront Review - small/mid web marketing company
- Complex dependencies linking helps when dates slip in one project. Clients and internal stakeholders can easily see the impact of delays.
- Exporting schedules and timelines is fairly easy, allowing project managers to easily keep clients in the loop.
- Keeping documents all in one place allows us to package projects and save them locally for easy record-keeping.
- There are some performance issues that occur when the number of tasks reaches past 100.
- Exporting schedules could use some work in order to customize a bit more.
- There doesn't seem to be the ability to search without saving a report. Many times I like to do a query without having to save it as a report.
Gets the job done without breaking the bank
- Manage resource workload, and provider resource allocation
- Organize and track all project work
- Very good reporting and ability to use custom fields to meet a lot of needs
- Allowing more project defaults to be set to avoid having to always edit tasks after they are created
- Understanding advance reporting, custom report programming, is there own language, hard to understand if you want to program your own reports
- Custom calculations, understanding syntax and how to use can be challenging
Very handy dashboards and really detailed reports
- View of resource grid
- Financial reporting - level of data
- Timesheet management
- Responsiveness of views, sometimes I have to resize the columns to be able to see what I want to.
(Mostly) success story
- Provide transparency on work being done.
- Encourage communications in development teams.
- Documenting past decisions.
- Adding community Q&A is really helpful, because most of us go though the same issues or questions.
- Reporting. Most reports are configured by trial and error, details on fields would be appreciated.
- Popup-like function so when a user is blocked, they are given tips on why they could be blocked. Less intervention by admin.
- Workfront is intimidating to new users, there could be an easier way for them to adopt the product.
- When many cross functional teams are working together
- When different methodologies (agile, waterfall, other) are mixed together. The product is really flexible.
- When people are really used to a work management product
Less appropriate:
- When the product being developed is already technically complicated, adoption is slower
- When people aren't really used to being monitored
- When there is no project management culture
Small Company Workfront Review
- We love the agile capabilities in Workfront. The tool does a great job of combining agile and traditional task management into a single tool.
- Workfront Request Queues provide an easy way to manage and route requests ensuring that the right people see and act on requests.
- Workfront reporting allows to automate project status reporting without having to write a separate status report. We enter project updates directly into Workfront and then use scheduled reports to deliver information to stakeholders.
- We would like an option to create a Kanban style storyboard.
Herding cats made possible with Workfront
- Templates are cool. From the implementation process, we identified many different types of projects and workflows, then created each of those as a template. When a user has a new project, they have strong, vetted templates to start from. Templates save time and frustration.
- Updates keep email boxes clean. When we communicate within Workfront, things can move much faster. I'm not bothered by seeing a few emails hit my inbox from Workfront updates...it merely reminds me to open the system, and dig in.
- Changing on the fly. Workfront projects are easy to edit, whether at the project level or task level. I like knowing that the tool can be as flexible as we need it to be.
- I've thought since day one that when tasks are 100% complete they should fold up and out of the way. I think from a UX perspective, and for efficiency, that would be a simple improvement that would users would greatly appreciate.
- Search. That seems like a cheap shot, but with so many digital files and different structures from one system to the next, when a tool has a robust search function it just makes everyone's work a bit faster and less frustrating. The current search in Workfront is pretty good, but looking across the tool, maybe from a Dashboard point, would be primo!
Modest review of Workfront
- Reporting
- Customizing fields
- Notifications
- Sexiness
- Interface is dated
- Swim lane functionality needs work
Workfront Review - Agile
- The interface is easy to navigate and user-friendly.
- Very robust functions in scheduling and building out a detailed project plan.
- Handy features to tag individuals in important tickets and assign work.
- We use this tool for our Agile development, this could be fleshed out more.
- Adding functionality to prioritize work in Sprints can be enhanced
- Managing the comments on tickets can get a little overwhelming at times.
Workfront Can't Be Beat!
- Workfront allows project managers to manage the project more than the people because it has built-in notifications that are sent to the individuals that perform the work in the schedule so the PM doesn't have to bug the person. If the individual neglects to respond, WF even has the ability to notify the person's manager, not that I've ever had to use that functionality.
- Outlook Plug-In functionality: I love the ability to insert an email and all of the attachments directly into a specific WF task in my project directly from my mail client. No more copy and paste of the email message to the Updates tab and saving the attachments and having to attach them to the Documents section...the tool does it all.
- Workfront's customization is amazing. If it doesn't have it, you can build it. I love that I don't have to wait for someone else to build it, I can build it myself. I can create fields, forms, reports, dashboards, processes, automatic approvals, etc.... It's really amazing what this tool can do. On top of that Workfront has the BEST reputation for adoption of user suggestions. They even created an Idea Exchange to capture the ideas.
- No more searching for documentation on Sharepoint or a shared file directory. Every file that is related to my project is attached to the exact task in my schedule. All of your documentation, notes, emails, comments, etc. are captured in one location for future reference.
- Want to centralize how you capture your work? You can create a request queue to allow users to submit request for support, enhancements, issues, etc. If you have a process that requires an approval by someone before the work can be performed, i.e. project intake, enhancement work, or access to some type of systems application, you can attach an approval process to the queue to automatically send the request when the work is requested alleviating the need for an administrator to intervene before any action can be taken to help the end user.
- Having worked in two different environments with Workfront as the main project management tool, I have to say that having more examples of best practices for implementation by industry would be helpful. I want to know how other people manage Risks (need to be able to outline a mitigation plan in the project schedule automatically), best practices for teams, groups, approval processes.
- When moving tasks around in a project or from project to project, I would like to see the hierarchy structure more clearly defined. I don't like having to scroll through hundreds of parent tasks and children tasks to find the location where I want to move the new tasks.
- In the Agile environment, I would like to know when the sprint will begin and end. In addition, I'd like to see what stories/points the team started the sprint with and what they ended with.
- Setting up new users...when I'm creating a new user, I'm not sure what their initial view in Workfront will look like and often it isn't what I want them to see. I would like to either better understand how to create users with an immediate view that I've predefined (I almost think this is Layout templates and I'm just not familiar with them) or understand how others set up users to do this.
Project Manager's Review of Workfront
- Establish workflow
- Organize multiple initiatives by generating portfolios and programs.
- Customize views for different users' groups to meet their specific needs.
- Enhanced connectivity for approval processes and reviews.
- Proof HQ integration with Workfront scheduling.
- Increased best practices shared across various types of deliverables.
With the many options Workfront can provide, a strong guidance would have been well suited to prepare users to set up up the complex system so that it was more suited for larger, more complex projects and/or initiatives.
Workfront inside a Credit Union
- Having the ability to use the agile methodology, as well as waterfall, allows us to execute projects using the best method for each particular project.
- The timecard functionality helps teams not only to manage their projects tasks, but gives visibility to our PMO how much time and effort stakeholders and team members are spending on projects.
- We have created multiple templates so that no matter what project methodology we apply to execute and deliver a project, the phases and milestones are present and can easily be pulled into senior level reporting.
- My number one request would be to have an "undo" option.
- When I am learning new functions within Workfront, or trying to use functionality I know exists but am unsure of how to use the software, I will review any training in the Workfront Community but I have found that at times, the training does not answer my questions and when I have had to reach out to support, they often do not know the answer and I can days, and sometimes even weeks, to have my questions answered.
- In my opinion, sometimes less is more. I would like to understand what workfront customers are using the full functionality available or to see an option to purchase pieces of the software so that SME's can be assigned to support each client based on the version they own. There are some functions I don't believe my organization will ever utilize and in talking with clients and customers of Workfront at the conferences, it has taken some of the end users many years to add functionality as part of their process because its so robust and takes years to master. I would like to understand from a percentage standpoint how many customers use for marketing only, projects only, reporting only, etc.
- Centralizing input of work requests
- Management of the workflow processes
- Approval flows
- Better API Integration
- More ways to integrate existing systems and processes
- Project templates: Because we are a marketing company, we tend to have projects that are cookie cutters of each other. By being able to create a template and assign milestones, converting requests to projects is efficient.
- User Task Lists: This feature is outstanding. The ability to sort, search, and create a customized priority is awe inspiring. As an administrator, I can get away from sticky notes or daily standup meetings to determine what is being worked on by the team, and what will be worked on next. This is all in Workfront, and I don't have to interrupt the team to get status updates.
- User Interface for Project Status/Roadblocks: My account manager appreciates the ability to not only see the progress, as a % complete, of a project, but he likes that he can scroll down and see at what task the roadblock appears. Similarly, if a client asks where we are with the project, he has a quick and simple way to verify for himself. This self-service UI allows me to not be interrupted for quick questions.
- Ability to provide ideas for new functionality or improvements in Idea Exchange.
- Reporting Feature: I inherited Workfront from the previous project manager. It had only been used for 3 months up until this point. By that time, our set up hours were depleted, and I was up to my own devices to determine how to build and customize reports to get what I needed. Unfortunately, the former PM wasn't very experienced with reports and dashboards, so the reports that existed were broken or inadequate. This means, I had to fumble through the reports. I am not getting what I need from the reporting functionality, and the help / training sessions are very underwhelming.
- Updating tasks: I appreciate the template feature, but to update the tasks when you have more than 15 is cumbersome. Each cell is responsive, and I would very much welcome a spreadsheet type page where I can enter everything and press "Save" before changes commit to the system.
- Assigning tasks to a user where the date is already set: For example, I use a template, and one of tasks is graphic design, and the date was pre-populated to 10/31/2017. When I assign this task to the user (e.g. Bob Smith), the task automatically enters into their "My Work" as 10/31/2017, which is great. But, let's say I after I assign the task, I update the predecessor to take longer, which makes this task's due date 11/15/2017. This makes Bob's task still due on 10/31/2017. What a headache!!!
Workfront falls short at being a true project management system. It is very hard to get reporting and Gantts out of Workfront. I have clients that want a weekly Gantt of their programs, which I have to do by hand by trolling through each project. I should be able to quickly see a snapshot of the project, program, and company from Workfront.
Workfront from the back - and IT Perspective
- Very user friendly and intuitive
- Ability to perform enhanced reporting
- Customizable per team
- Defect Tracking
- TQA/UAT Testing
- IT Agile Development tracking
