Yellowfin checked all the boxes for us in terms of flexibility and adaptability to our environment and requirements, in embedding capability and white labelling of the product to provide us with a seamless BI platform supporting our GRC suite of the RUBiQ modules for our end clients. Furthermore RUBiQ is a cloud GRC solution offering and Yellowfin adapted to meet our multi-tenant requirements within our cloud environment. Living as we do in an age of information, enabling access to validated and verified information for critical decision making is an absolute must in any decision maker’s tool kit. The problem is that often information is disbursed and siloed within most organisations, leaving a lot of gut feel and guess work to do on the part of the decision maker. On top of this, a great deal of information in organisations today, still ends up being manually compiled and distributed in Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, this can allow for personal opinions and alteration of information for the "innocent purpose of showing the good and softening the bad" when reporting to executives. Unfortunately decision makers need all the key critical information, as real time as possible, to formulate an accurate picture to take key actions to circumvent and prevent crisis related situations. The integration of Yellowfin with our RUBiQ GRC solution allows us to ensure that this does not occur and key decision makers get timely accurate, real time data to confidently make the right decisions to ensure ongoing business continuity, viability and sustainability and growth within their organisations.,Presentation of information for executive reporting. The Yellowfin user interface is intuitive and easy to use, elevating VSV clients from needing in-depth training on the product before true value can be realised. The Yellowfin architecture supports the Pintl architecture 100% due to a similar design strategy and as such no real overhead is added to the Pintl system for the addition of the Yellowfin product nor does it add any additional IT overhead to be used. The Yellowfin product is quick and simple to develop reports and dashboards in cutting turn-around-time at the VSV development team and when new/custom reports are required by VSV clients.,Initially the Yellowfin business model was difficult to align to the VSV model but through some simple negotiations a workable model was reach which made in commercial application viable Some additional licensing models could also be of value as we do not use the product in a pure business intelligence only application.,10,QlikView,10,10Yellowfin as easy BI & Analytical tool for all kind of users of an organisationWe are re-seller, consulting and system integrator of Yellowfin BI application for our esteem customers. Other than those mentioned Yellowfin has worked well for the scope of what we need to report on for our end clients within the Governance, Risk and Compliance environment.

The agile and flexible nature of the product along side the standard APIs and technologies makes Yellowfin a strategic winner for companies looking to offer services and products into the business world where the primary focus is not simply business intelligence but where business intelligence still forms a key contributor to the overall customer solution.

It is less appropriate when you need to produce a visualization quickly as it is slow to develop (compared to Tableau or Excel). However, some of this was because of the way we had our systems connected to Yellowfin (and the way the data was organized).

User Review: "Yellowfin and healthcare data"

Score 10 out of 10
Vetted Review

Our company produces IT applications that are sold to health and social care organisations across the UK. Yellowfin is used as a BI user tool in conjunction with multiple Business Intelligence products. It provides very simple, easy to use and effective business intelligence tool with the aim of providing additional understanding on large scale healthcare data.
  • Ease of use
  • Simple highly visual dashboards and reports
  • Web based, so zero footprint
  • Cost effective
  • Needs better meters / gauges
Yellowfin works very well layered over an existing data warehouse and used to visualise data. We already had an extensive data warehouse solution which has grown over many years. It provides a cutting edge user interface to enable very easy access and use of the data. The view based metadata layer in particular is a big strength. Yellowfin only has CSV data imports so do not expect it to solve any traditional ETL issues.

"Self Service BI in Higher Education with Yellowfin BI: Easy to use, develop and administrate"

Score 10 out of 10
Vetted Review
Verified User
Review Source
Yellowfin BI provides web-based access to data from all performance areas of the university. For example, the portal can be used to retrieve aggregated numbers about students (bachelor, master and doctoral), publications, and external funding. Furthermore, it can create detailed reports that provide a structured overview of contract durations, project budgets and available positions. The system aims to efficiently complete internal and external reporting requirements (e.g. monitoring reports for study and teaching, the delivery of rankings, reports for donors) and to reduce the growing workload for reporting tasks. The availability and usability of the data supports internal and external decision-making, controlling, and the management by university employees. This will significantly strengthen the strategic management of the university on all levels. The portal is available to all employees of the university as self-service BI.
  • Ease of use due to a clear and good structured user interface
  • Easy to administrate and to develop new BI content even for personnel without IT background
  • Powerful features for collaboration and sharing (social BI)
  • Very helpful documentation (wiki), support portal and monthly webinar series
  • More options to include meta data (column description, data annotation, report annotation) for BI self service end users
  • The compliance to the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS) is currently not possible
Yellowfin BI is well suited within a self service BI scenario for many end users as well as for BI projects with only limited IT staff resources (department driven BI). It is also well suited whenever the ease of use and a clear user interface is necessary.
