An easy to use and cost effective alternative to JIRA and Remedy
YouTrack is used in multiple ways in our company. We use it for managing agile projects (kanban), tracking internal tasks and we also use it for supporting our clients.
We wanted a platform that we could self host and is lean on system resources. We also were conscious of the fact that when giving access to external clients that it has to be easy to use and have an uncluttered interface. Many non-technical users (and several technical ones) are scared off by defacto standard platforms like Jira and this does not align with our profile of being collaborative with our clients and understanding that they need simplicity. That said, we also crave simplicity and YouTrack gives us that without compromising on the capabilities we need.

- Agile Project Management (we use kanban boards)
- A simple, customisable interface which we can use both internally with more detail and externally for clients with less detail
- Lean with system resources and simple to set up and operate
- We're actually very happy YouTrack users and have yet to come across a scenario where any of the team felt the product was lacking.

- YouTrack is inexpensive and isn't something we question the value of when it comes to renewal
- The team and our clients have positive things to say about the product. This is often not the case with Jira in my experience. Some snobbier project managers from other companies will grumble about software like YouTrack because it isn't familiar to them, but this attitude is misleading and unfair as the product is every bit as capable.
YouTrack is more cost effective than all the commercial options. It's way more powerful and easier to use than the Open Source ones. It's a good middle ground and it does everything we need. Our software projects are of moderate complexity and YouTrack handles them well. Likewise, when it comes to external users, we've had good feedback from clients. Many of these clients are non-technical and have expressed their relief at not having to use something like Jira which is often quite impregnable for such users.
