TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

Based on user reviews, the most common recommendations for Zerto are as follows:

  1. Try a POC (Proof of Concept) of Zerto to understand its ease and simplicity in disaster recovery. Users suggest experiencing the capabilities of Zerto firsthand through a POC to evaluate its effectiveness in protecting critical data and ensuring business continuity.

  2. Request a demo of Zerto to see all its capabilities. Users recommend attending a webinar or demo session to get an in-depth understanding of how Zerto can meet their specific needs and requirements. This allows them to assess whether Zerto's features align with their organization's goals.

  3. Consider integrating Zerto with Okta. Some users recommend leveraging the integration between Zerto and Okta, an identity and access management platform, to enhance security and streamline authentication processes. This can further strengthen data protection measures during disaster recovery scenarios.

Users find Zerto to be a valuable solution for disaster recovery purposes, with its intuitive interface, comprehensive backup capabilities, and ability to replicate data for different teams within an organization. They emphasize the importance of conducting thorough assessments, properly sizing the environment, and having manual processes in place for smooth transitions during DR scenarios. While some users caution that Zerto is not a backup software per se, they recognize its strong position in the market for seamless disaster recovery operations.

We use Zerto for [the] replication of our VMs across the whole organization. Replication is made to a DR site 3 hours away with an RTO of 4 to 8 seconds. There is currently 48Tb being replicated. We hold normal copies for 3 days. We use Zerto's long-term retention and hold daily copies for 7 days, weekly copies for 1 month, monthly copies for 12 months, and yearly for 7 years. It fulfills our company [backup] policy for a financial institution.
  • A single web interface is nice
  • Alerting is good for offline machines not being replicated
  • Able to use a mobile application to view status in real time
  • Support is responsive and excellent
  • Works on all hardware
  • Not all tools work with Hyper-V, it is based on VMware
Works really well when test restorations are needed and have to be reported for audits. I wish there was more support/knowledge on dealing with a MS Hyper-V environment. Support personnel do the best they can knowing little about Hyper-V; most know VMWare. Seemed a little expensive, but over time it is well worth the price.
  • Compared to previous method of server restoration, the time needed is significantly less and much quicker.
Support is responsive and stays with it until issues are resolved. Wish they had a better knowledge of Hyper-V.
Works great. Some features are not available for Hyper-V; reason for my rating of 8.

Mainly monitoring if backups are being done reliably. Also generating reports on backups for auditing purposes.

I and one other person are all that is needed to maintain the system. It simply works.
  • Reports for auditing needs
  • Real time status on a mobile application
  • Not a complicated web interface
  • For testing we have used alternative backup machines and locations, all worked
  • Recovered files for others using Zerto
  • Tested new network circuits with a recovered test machine
  • Backup to the cloud are anticipated in the future
It solves problems and works as designed. Easy to manage and support is excellent.

  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
A key feature is the reporting ability.
Originally started using the product through an acquisition of another company. We gave it a try and it really worked well. So we purchased more licenses and integrated [them] into our backup policy.
Selected Zerto because it met our needs. Plus it was hardware agnostic. Definitely a good product with very good support.
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
  • Crosslinking data and accounts between our management server and Zerto
Make sure the end goal is in mind before implementing. That way results meet expectations.
Yes. needed 24/7 support and it is available with the premium purchase.
Yes
Eventually, not immediately
Had an issue with VMs not replicating and after hours support stayed with me over the weekend and resolved the issue.
  • Restoration routines are easy to perform
  • Auditing/documenting restorations is nice
  • When things go offline, sometimes the error reported is ambiguous
Yes
Very well. Use it more than I thought I would

Primary Use Case

Replication of business critical VMware VMs over WAN to the remote disaster recovery datacenter.

Valuable Features

The benefits are obvious: The simplicity of the setup and the speed of replication.

The speed of WAN replication is great. It is faster compared to RecoverPoint and 20 VMs replicating over a 20Mbps VPN, which has a RPO less than one minute. Of course, your mileage will vary.

Improvements to My Organization

Compared to the previous DR replication solution, Zerto has decreased both RPO and RTO significantly.

  • The simplicity of the setup
  • The speed of replication
  • Low RPO and RTO
  • It's complicated to remove the virtual appliance if for some reason you lose the host.
  • Replication of Microsoft/SQL Clusters needs good beforehand planning

Make sure you have enough bandwidth!

Zerto is great!

We use Zerto to replicate our VMware environment, which has grown substantially over the past several years or so. We have an off-prem DR site that we replicate both on-site data and cloud data brought in from a wide array of formats and organizations. We love the functionality of the automation and the ease of management. It really helps free up time.

Zerto is very well suited for a situation in which you need to replicate data or info to a DR site, whether on or off-prem, or in the cloud. This software platform has a lot of cloud capabilities, and really makes sense for a lot of organizations trying to make their DR more approachable and consistent.
  • Definitely a good ROI, but could be more cost effective
  • Licensing could be addressed
  • Ease of manaegment
We looked at both CommVault and NetBackup, which are similar platforms to that of the Zerto Replication Software stack. We thought the Zerto solution best met our specification needs, as well as our cost needs. The CommVault licensing was complicated, and we just have had a bad experience in the past with NetBackup.

All of the staff that use Zerto Replication Software are in our internal IT department. While we also have a sales staff that sells Zerto products and software, we also use it internally. So the sales team is very knowledgeable, but the IT team is the group that has their hands on the software and use it regularly.
We have a lot of engineering talent on our staff, so we most likely have one or a few employees who are able to fiddle around and make the changes we might need out of our Zerto replication environment, but if we need expert level experience, we would have to reach out to Zerto directly.
  • Disaster Recovery to an offsite location
  • Disaster recovery to the cloud
  • Ensuring a current copy is always available
  • Resilience
  • multi-cloud functionality
  • availability of data and copies of data
  • continuous data replication
  • application consistency grouping
  • long term retention
We really like the easy setup of this replication solution, as well as the ease of management. Not to mention, our internal IT Economist determined that the Zerto solution would provide the best ROI out of the competing solutions we analyzed. So far, his calculations have been spot on, and we have saved substantially.
