Our office has a hybrid working environment with corporate employees working out of the corporate office and then the remote consultants. We use Zscaler as our firewall for our hosted solutions on Azure and AWS. We are also maintaining a Fortinet NGFW on-premise for our corporate staff. Zscaler is primarily tasked with protecting our hosted solutions on the cloud. We also route some outbound traffic from our corporate office via Zscaler to the internet. The primary reason we bought Zscaler is to allow remote consultants to connect into our secure services hosted online.
  • Zscaler completely moved away from the traditional firewall setup to a hosted firewall solution. We don't have to worry about the hardware failing or maintaining it as part of our service plan compared to our on-premise firewall. Zscaler has a lot of data centres across the world where they are maintaining their solutions so mobile consultants will always be close to one of their data centres.
  • Rolling out Zscaler solutions to our end customers' computers is actually pretty easy and hassle-free. As part of onboarding of new employees we can set up the Zscaler solution and push it to our end users' machines and get them connected to the cloud solutions.
  • Zscaler does proper market research on the latest emerging threats and they keep their firewall patched and updated to the latest versions so the security team does not have to worry about keeping the firewall updated.
  • My personal opinion about Zscaler is their idea is that all the services are online and are moving to the cloud but the truth is some of them have to stay on-premise and employees still need to work from an office. Zscaler simply doesn't have any on-premise solutions like an NGFW to provide a complete package. We are supporting Fortinet NGFW for our on-premise solution.
  • As mentioned earlier Zscaler being hosted online we don't get the full flexibility of managing our firewalls. Although it's a good thing we keep running into problems like when we want to allow list a service from a specific source IP Zscaler cannot provide a static IP for that. They route traffic through multiple IP addresses and the IP's keep changing every 15-20 minutes. So you cannot allow list a specific IP on the receiving end. The only way to move forward would be to allow an entire range of IP's which opens a security loophole on the receiving end.
  • For every small thing we have to keep opening a ticket with Zscaler. Their response rate is fast but still in a fast-moving world it's not fast enough. Especially since we need to get approval from our change control to get something done and then again we have to raise a ticket to get something done from the Zscaler side.
Zscaler is well suited if you have a work force which is 90-100% remote and you don't have to worry about any on-premise solution. In these cases all you have to do is set up your Zscaler and push credentials to your end users and they are good to go. Zscaler simply doesn't have any solutions if you have physical offices. This means you need to maintain separate firewalls (On-prem NGFW and Zscaler), separate contracts, separate points of contact and separate documentation and training.

In the Middle East region with strict data laws or countries where there is a law that critical network devices have to be maintained in the country this might not be the right solution as Zscaler doesn't have data centres in every country. Also some organisations like the government's compliance policy might not permit a solution like Zscaler because the security team does not have much control of the product.

We use Zscaler Internet Access in our organization as the main browser-based security layer, bringing security layers with web content filtering, cloud app security broker, and DLP cloud technologies. One of the biggest gains we have using Zscaler Internet Access is the compatibility with all platforms (Linux, macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS) and also the fast replication of policies applied in its web console. Solution met our needs providing the policies applied due to being 100% cloud solution. Fast delivery of policies and settings.
  • Access control based on cloud applications
  • Mitigation against data exfiltration
  • Web Content Filtering
  • Automatic authentication for Linux endpoints
  • Automatic authentication for macOS endpoints
  • knowledge base improvements for linux endpoints
Zscaler Internet Access is a great solution to add more layers of security to browsing, mitigating access to malicious sites or sites that contain fraudulent content. In addition to bringing more visibility over applications that IT does not have vision (shadow IT). ZIA is a solution that adds value to the business, its infrastructure is fast and for the end-user allocated to the endpoint, the experience is very pleasant and transparent.

We are currently using Zscaler (ZIA) and are rolling it out to our entire company. This was a big concern with the WFH caused by the pandemic and gives us the ability secure and protect our remote workforce. This is a replacement product for our organization to better protect our uses and provider better security monitoring.
  • DNS protection
  • Network security monitoring
  • Endpoint Network Protection
  • Better way to push out the Zscaler certs to endpoints
Distributed and remote workforce, this can provide similar protection and visibility that one would normally have in a corporate environment that protects users and endpoint. Zscaler (ZIA) gives you that NIDS/NIPS protection which makes my job as a security engineer much easier. Gives me better peace of mind for sure.

The ZScalar is being used by each and every user within the company. The following are pros n cons of Zscalar:

  • Provides Secured internet with full encryption.
  • Ease of use & don't reduce the speed of internet like other security softwares.
  • Easy to monitor usage through log reports, which can be exported on demand.
  • Last but not the least, bandwidth control using this product by load balancing feature.

  • It starts while booting the system.
  • The user can disable it anytime.
  • Limited features in Content filtration.
  • Bandwidth control
  • Load balancing
  • Focussed internet usage
  • Monitoring the usage
  • Safe internet usage
  • More features in Content filter option
  • Interference with other softwares
  • User interface
It is well suited in manufacturing where the users are not mobile. However, in the situation where users are mobile like in sales etc, there it is less appropriate.
Office365 with ZScalar is comparatively slow, the email uploading & downloading takes time.

Zscaler Internet Access is deployed across the whole organization. It is part of our standard PC image. We were looking for a solution to secure and protect our assets while surfing the internet and connecting to different wifi networks - often unsecured, public or customer ones. Zscaler Internet Access encrypts the traffic so provides secure access to the network. Insights into our bandwidth utilization and acceleration of Azure services was a nice add-on.
  • Secure internet browsing
  • Bandwidth utilization insights
  • Encrypting traffic end-to-end
  • Accelerating traffic to Azure
  • Further reduction of false-positives
  • Easier initial setup
[Zscaler Internet Access] is very well suited for scenarios where one is looking for hassle free internet and network connection. It ensures that your users can connect to any networks and they will be secure. Additional plus is ability to deploy Zscaler client to your company smartphones - this gives complete network protection. We only encounter a few issues with Zscaler Internet Access (mainly false-positives) but these were promptly resolve by the vendor.

Because of COVID we had to quickly pivot into a remote workforce. This means providing access to the company network for users outside of our office, we use Zscaler to ensure a smooth user experience when accessing tools we need to service out clients. This company-wide access also allows departments to still collaborate while working remotely, because of Zscaler we didn't have any downtime and we carried on our operation as if we were all housed in one location.
  • Speed - get access to your company tools without any hiccups or delay.
  • Secure - keeping data protected for the company and allowing access only to authorized people.
  • Ease of deployment - minimal setup needed and little to none connectivity issues.
  • Desktop notification - inform users if connection was terminated.
  • Guided help - show options for self-troubleshooting.
  • Self-install - instead of IT doing it for you, maybe you can do the installation on your own.
Zscaler is well suited for an enterprise-grade company with over 1000+ employees. It can be less applicable for small business with 50 users or below.

Zscaler Internet Access is used company wide and of course it is helping to securely access the data from internet without compromising the security.
  • Safe Internet access.
  • Cloud based hence can be scaled up when required.
  • Customization with respect to the company requirements and IT policies.
  • Costing of course is one of the areas.
  • Sometime blocking the genuine access also.
  • Solution for small company required.
Zscaler Internet Access is suited very well where company is very big and distributed across the world and have lot of users in different part of the world accessing the net.
It is less appropriate for a small company and cost wise unviable for them if users are less.

Zscaler is used by our organization to secure our devices from internet content. This is being used by each and every department of our organization. It takes away the need of installing multiple applications to secure the workstations while interacting with the internet and simply replaces it with a Zscaler application that provides the capabilities of different applications via the cloud.
  • Since it's cloud-based, it's completely on-demand and scalable without any additional hardware required.
  • Deployment is fairly straightforward.
  • Customer support is prompt and tickets are resolved in a quick turnaround time.
  • Chat or email support is not available. Only option is to either call them or raise a ticket by logging into their website.
  • Pricing is not transparent and quote based.
  • Access to websites is a little too slow with Zscaler monitoring on.
Zscaler is suited for organizations where a lot of employees work remotely and need to access a lot of cloud-based applications. It enables an organization to filter out content and applications that don't adhere to policies. It provides a scalable on-demand solution with over 150 data centers to allow users to have low latency in connection.
Since they don't have a direct mailing support system and also sometimes I felt that the knowledge level of executives dealing with support was not up to the mark.

Zscaler is being used for content filtering on out Internet. We have most everything going through Zscaler but we do have some workstations and servers that do not use Zscaler. We do hear some complaints from employees from time to time but security is a pain so it's normal.
  • Great at content filtering based on categories, countries, etc.
  • The sandbox feature of Zscaler is a huge plus.
  • Having the ability do decrypt SSL traffic works well.
  • Filtering through the logging can be a bit troublesome.
  • I can't remember the exact reason but we preferred to do an IPSEC tunnel back to Zscaler but instead had to use a GRE Tunnel
  • The reporting feature could use some improvement. Clean, clear reports would be nice.
As far as content filtering goes, Zscaler has met all of our needs. We feel that is doing the job well but we also feel like we could get more out of it. The ability for a downloaded file to be ran in a sandbox before delivering to the use is an awesome feature. The end user gets frustrated that they have to wait up to 10 minutes to receive their download but from a security standpoint it is working well.
I cannot give a fair rating for this as I have not had to contact Zscaler support. There was one time we had to contact them because we needed to check if they were having issues on their end. Our ISP was actually the problem but support seemed very friendly.

It is being used across the entire organization to secure users working on-premise as well as remotely. It has replaced the traditional hub and spoke appliance hardware and complex VPN implementations. It is designed to allow us to secure our assets in a mixed on-premise /cloud environment. More and more security is required as many of our applications become cloud-based.
  • Zscaler allows us to grow our network without a great deal of additional hardware infrastructure.
  • It secures cloud-based applications without the data center having to perform complex configurations.
  • We are slowly moving away from VPN as our primary security mechanism and this permits this.
  • Securing third party access is a bit complex to implement. These are our third party partners who require access to our data center on a temporary basis.
  • It is a bit of a learning curve to transform from the VPN and appliance architecture to this model.
It is well suited to companies that don't have a large network department and security office. Large enterprises may have too many layers of personnel to make the transition as seamless as it could be.

Zscaler is being used by the whole organization. We are using it for security - internet security, firewall, web security, etc. Also used for vulnerability management of user activity happening in cloud computing. It helps to simplify administration, improves control and increase visibility. It also increase the user performance.
  • Improves visibility.
  • Provides security.
  • It does not support iOS and android yet.
It effortlessly scales to the traffic needs of users, including the hard-to-examine SSL. With this solution, businesses and its users are well-protected against security issues in the cloud.
They reply as quick as possible and communication is very good.

As technology is evolving, so are the threats increasing day by day. Security is the first priority of an organization, leads us to use Zscaler Internet Access this fantastic product. Good security product. Reporting and managing are straightforward. Employees can work securely from remote locations. The use of the SSO technique is beneficial. The best feature I like is filtering and the scanning, which it does. Kudos!! to the team for bringing such a product in the market.
  • Reporting is easy
  • Easy to use
  • Few times turn on button does not work smoothly
  • Support needs to be improved
Zscaler Internet Access being on the cloud makes it the most desirable product to be used worldwide. Best suited for small scale industries. But, it can also be ideal for large scale industries.

Zscaler is being used as a transparent proxy to prevent users from exhausting the bandwidth resources. There are some implementations customized for mobile networks and wired networks, where we have certain needs for a variety of devices and require coverage of others. Not implemented for networks where behavior/anomaly-based analysis is required.
  • Reverse Proxy
  • Forward Proxy
  • Protection
  • Poor mgmt. capabilities
  • Not so flexible
  • Hard to segment
  • Hard to implement as fault tolerant
I think the Zscaler platform is pretty well suited for short-scale networks/architectures since is hard to segment and a single error could bring down operations in your company - we've had a couple of those. At some point, the lack of flexibility has forced the implementation to take a whitelisting approach rather than a blacklisting/behavior/anomaly approach.
While overall support was always nice and polite, most of the time it was hard to reach them and it took awhile for them to respond back in urgent cases. It was probably an isolated case but, still, it's hard to manage a tool without proper support from the vendor when in need.

Zscaler handles our web filtering, web usage tracking, bandwidth control, etc.... everything that allows us to control and visualize what's going on in and out of our network, primarily for Cyber Security. Reports are available to track usage and help determine possible reasons for gaps in productivity. Bandwidth controls allow users to still utilize other sites, such as Youtube, but ensure that the usage doesn't bog down the rest of the company.
  • DAS program helps ensure that you get set up properly the first time around.
  • Reports are easily customizable from minute details that you may want as IT to high-level overviews for executive presentations.
  • Lots of capability.
  • No email support -- you must open tickets through their website.
  • Some support technicians need more experience.
If you're looking to ramp up your Cyber Security operations, Zscaler is a must-see. Their demos are great and the implementation is fairly painless. DAS helps you to get it set up and ensure success.

Zscaler Web Security is being used globally throughout the entire organisation and 50+ countries. Zscaler makes life easier and more productive for our employees.
How? because via SSO an employee can easily access the internet from any device and do so with very little restrictions.
Why? because Zscaler clearly demonstrates how their ability to scan websites in real-time detects malware and vulnerabilities that would otherwise gone unnoticed.
  • Zscaler is truly a cloud service, leveraging the capacity and throughput expected from the cloud along with the resilience
  • Zscaler takes away some of the risks imposed with older machines or poor patching by automatically restricting content to vulnerable agents
  • Zscaler works in the background and does not interfere with normal user operations. It does so consistently, wherever the individual works in the world
  • The pre-baked reports within Zscaler could do with a refresh, add some new reports in-tune with new threats. IE: show me any examples of crypto mining detected in the org
  • Zscaler could make it easier to clean out expired accounts or those of ex-employees to get a more accurate reading of activity
  • Failover monitoring for GRE tunnels could be improved although it does work
The absolute benefit of Zscaler is that it was born in the cloud and thus has no hybrid hangovers such as working with legacy proxy servers. Thus it is a clean system to configure and deploy.
It is a cloud service therefore you need to consider latency and internet traffic flows between your location and their pop. Zscaler have a large footprint to minimize that impact but it is worth examining with your ISP because the most obvious traffic route is not always the result you get.
The net result is that your optimum connection is within a different country which helps performance but geo-location / google searches could confuse people
