Grant Lifecycle Manager, known as GLM, is a versatile software solution that has transformed the grant and scholarship processes for various organizations. Users have found GLM to be incredibly helpful in streamlining their workflows and eliminating the need for paper-based systems. The Executive Director of the Luther I. Replogle Foundation, along with board members, has seamlessly transitioned to GLM for accepting applications and assigning evaluators, significantly improving efficiency and reducing administrative burdens.

GLM has also been adopted by the grants department at United Arts of Central Florida as their primary grants management tool. It simplifies the entire application and decision-making process, as well as outcome reporting, accounting, and organizational reporting. By centralizing all applicant and grantee interactions, GLM helps keep the organization organized and provides a single hub for managing external organizational granting, internal grants, and nominations for awards/recognition lists.

The family foundation fully utilizes GLM for various aspects of their grantmaking, including letters of inquiry, grant applications, grant reports, and customized reports. Grantees highly appreciate this online platform for its ease of access, user-friendly interface, and the ability to save work in progress. By using GLM, they have seen a remarkable improvement in their efficiency while reducing paper waste.

Eastern Bank also relies on GLM for online processing of all community support initiatives such as grant programs and Bank-sponsored events. Additionally, it serves as a vital tool for their scholarship program, allowing students to apply online while reviewers can conveniently review applications through the platform. With GLM's intuitive technology, sorting capabilities, real-time data manipulation, and export functions facilitate seamless collaboration within the team.

The Grant Lifecycle Manager has proven to be an invaluable resource for many organizations in streamlining their grantmaking processes from start to finish. Its intuitive interface allows for easy organization of LOIs, tracking outcomes, and generating insightful reports. Users appreciate Foundant's excellent responsiveness and support throughout their experience with GLM, which has made it a highly recommended tool for enhancing the grantmaking process in the philanthropic space.

Simple Navigation: Users consistently praise the system for its simple and intuitive navigation. This makes it easy for administrators, applicants, and evaluators to access the software seamlessly across all platforms and devices.

Smooth System Updates: Reviewers appreciate that thoughtful system updates are implemented without causing any disruption to their experience. These updates ensure the smooth operation of the software while keeping users up-to-date with new features and improvements.

Efficient Information Retrieval: Many users highly value the ability to easily search for and retrieve information about grants or requests from previous years. This feature saves them valuable time and effort by eliminating the need to manually sift through old records.

Some users have found the process for third-party responses to be cumbersome. They mention that there are multiple emails to deal with in order to find the correct link to upload necessary documents, making it a time-consuming and inefficient process.

Users feel that customized reports could be improved. They believe that the fault lies with themselves for not thinking analytically enough to craft concise reports, indicating a desire for more flexibility and customization options in generating reports.

The absence of CRM functionality has been noted by some users as a limitation. They would like a built-in customer relationship management system to manage contacts and associated emails more effectively.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I used GIFTS more than 10 years ago. Their development was glacial, and it was clumsy software. They took much longer to develop the on-line application process. I also reviewed Philan Tech. They did not offer the same flexibility that Foundant's GLM did. Nor did the company have the depth of software engineering experience that Philan Tech had at the time. Finally, I used a back-office support company for a short time that has an on-line grant management component. This option proved to be too cumbersome and too expensive. And I did not personally get along with the staff there. Definitely not a good fit for the Replogle Foundation and me.

  • MicroEdge GIFTS
We used MicroEdge GIFTS (server hosted, not online) for about five years, but became frustrated with the fact that their improvements were not provided to existing users of the product unless they purchased additional modules, usually at $20K+ each, even though we had to pay $10-15K per year in "maintenance." Foundant distinguished itself by providing updates to users without additional cost, and by the quick pace of updates.

Foundant also offered significant benefits like the ability to convert an entire application to PDF in one click; merge templates; TextAndUpload field type and more. The form creator was much more intuitive than MicroEdge GIFTS, as it looked like the applicant's view and allowed the user to drag and drop fields; MicroEdge's form creators looked/behaved differently for different types of forms. Foundant's reporting tool was also superior, allowing filters and pie charts on screen. Other software options that we looked at had some interesting additional features, but were significantly more pricey and we felt Foundant provided the better value. I'm still confident we made the right choice, more than 4 years later.

I have not used other online grantmaking products or evaluated others. I used to use MicroEdge Gifts, but not the online application version. It was a stand alone management system. This is hands-down better, easier to use and a more complete system.

In 2011 we demoed and reviewd IGAM, Good Done Great, Grant Lifecycle Manager (Foundant) and ChesterCap. Each company and software had strength and weaknesses. We selected Grant Lifecycle Manager based on the product's cost (and how the subscription cost is based); the professionalism of the demonstration, and compared to other software we liked all of the pieces of the software being in one place - one login location. A local United Way had purchased the software and gave us a demonstration and praised the support they received.

We are former GIFTS clients. GIFTS was good but expensive for our small organization and had declining customer service. The GIFTS product we owned had several add on modules which added to the cost and made the product disjointed. Foundant's Grant Lifecycle Management was more cohesive and innovative; the customer support and technical assistance is great and the cost is reasonable.
