We use OwnBackup for daily backups of our production Salesforce instance as well as our Partial Sandbox instance and developer sandboxes when appropriate. We also backup both data and metadata. The data included in our instance spans our program, operations, communications, and finance departments. We have primarily used OwnBackup to restore data that was deleted during a "cascade delete" event, where a user deleted a record and all of its related data. We also used OwnBackup to restore metadata that was erroneously deleted.
  • User interface - easy to use
  • Trust worthy - I know that it works
  • Proactive notifications - they let me know if something seems risky
  • Price - it is one of our most expensive third-party applications
  • User adoption - we are still not leveraging all of the OwnBackup features
OwnBackup has been a great investment for my nonprofit organization. However, given price there are scenarios where I would not recommend OwnBackup because there are alternatives that exist at a more modest price point. For any organization with the scale to afford the product, I think it is top of the line.
  • Daily backup of data and metadata from multiple SFDC environments.
  • Ability to compare, find, and restore lost or corrupted data.
  • Ability to seed sandboxes with test data.
  • Saved hours of time and agony restoring lost metadata.
  • Restored important data that was deleted by mistake.
  • Security and peace of mind.

We use OwnBackup to backup our Salesforce environment, and when necessary, to restore data. We also use it to seed sandboxes. In addition, I've also used it to research change history of records by viewing the previous state of data. It used by all departments in our organization that use Salesforce.
  • Automatic, daily full backups of data.
  • Users have access to backups
  • User friendly interface
  • I wish there was more detailed documentation on the search tools
Very helpful for backup and recovery. Allows the ability to manage this "in house" instead of having to rely on Salesforce support. There is a browser-based User interface for searching and managing your backup data. The native data export tool is not automatic and can not be run daily and has no UI for managing data.
  • OwnBackup has allowed us to very quickly restore accidentally lost data.
  • OwnBackup offers great protection and security against data loss.
  • Also useful for sandbox seeding.
The native Salesforce weekly export tool is not a sufficient backup solution. It must be run manually and can not be run more frequently than once a week. The resulting backups are a collection of CSV files. OwnBackup automatically backs up your data daily and has a web interface to search and manage your backups.
OwnBackup has been very responsive on the few occasions where we've needed help.

This is used by CRM department. We use this for handling customer service incidents (Complaints and Problems).
  • We use this for backing up data for unforeseen contingency.
  • This helps our organization to compare, recover and replicate in case of disaster recovery.
  • User specific notification configuration can be improved.
  • Generating reports in SAP BW via Salesforce OwnBackup needs additional configuration to minimize the reporting delays.
As we are in the service industry, we need regular backup and uninterrupted service at all levels. Previously, this has been taking overload to backup and comply the service levels. With Salesforce OwnBackup this overload has been reduced.
  • Cost effective.
  • In-house Salesforce OwnBackup Support team is not required.
The decision is a corporate office decision based on the usability and service agreements between customer and company.
Based on my own experience and by other team members.
