Likelihood to Recommend Good combination when using their other products like an incident response. When using automated workflows, this makes creating sender policies a breeze. Unfortunately, this can also be done too well as it may filter out valid emails and to resend or place them back into users' mailbox isn't an easy thing to do even if you attempt to resend through the Email Security Gateway.
Read full review With around 80 users and 150 devices (including 6 server instances), this solution served us very well, with instant admin notifications and scheduled overall reports. Detection appears extremely reliable, and the memory and CPU footprint of the service seemed less intrusive than Panda, which we had issues running on Terminal Services instances, as it seems to hog excessive memory allocation. Rollout was smooth and we never had an instance of a corrupt installation.
Read full review Pros ESS has a simple interface for both users and administrators. The "Manage Quarantine" button in each email is a direct sign-on link, so users don't have to remember their password to manage their quarantine (this is GOLD, Jerry!). The baseline functionality (catching spam/malware/phishing/malware attachments/malformed PDFs etc) is super-solid, with few false positives and few false negatives. Read full review Hybrid deployment, can be on-prem or cloud specific, we are using cloud based Central Control Manager capabilities to have control about what happens in the environment No need to have internal infrastructure to host further than your workstations or terminals No need to have dedicated team for security or endpoint protection Maintenance and updates are available just as released, no need to take actions on that side Great capabilities as a connected threat defense platform Endpoint protection features and quality for SMBs Cloud and collaboration platforms compatible including Office 365, Google Mail and On-Cloud Storage Read full review Cons You need to take time in adding your contacts to a whitelist so that you don't miss an email. I recommend changing the time interval; Barracuda notifies you that you have quarantined emails as we were only getting 1 per day and we missed some urgent emails. The quarantine folder is web based, we'd prefer it to have been an add-in for Outlook. Read full review Price increases regularly. When you actually want to uninstall the agent, sometimes it will refuse to do so. Luckily TM has a special uninstall tool if needed. Can take awhile to dial in the thresholds against false positives. Read full review Usability So far we have had limited problems the one's we have had we can attribute to poor user judgement not our gateway failing. One of the best features is the Barracuda is intuitive to choices we make on blocking or rejecting emails which is a great feature. lessens are need to repetitively enter the same information
Read full review Installation and administration tools are fantastic. I found the endpoint policies to be not intuitive and clunky. The endpoint client was difficult to disable when trying to troubleshoot Apple issues and I often had to uninstall and then reinstall which was very time-consuming. Reporting is very useful and I was impressed with the reports I received.
Read full review Reliability and Availability Availability is robust and flawless. This is a non-issue, its always up & running and fail-over protection is available for restarts or upgrades.
Read full review Performance The WebUI is the only piece I find lacking on the Barracuda ESK. Its is not the fastest and is fairly utilitarian in its approach. The Outlook plug-in, while not in wide use here, causes zero slowdown in Outlook or the Barracuda ESG.
Read full review Support Rating Barracuda customer support is great. Most of the time when I can an actual tech support representative answers, not some person that will just take a message. If one is not available I will receive a call back in a very short time.
Read full review The few times I needed to contact support I was fully satisfied. They worked all the way through the issue, no matter how long it took, and made sure I had a permanent solution. I was pleased with the professionalism, courteousness, and knowledge of the product they were supporting.
Read full review Alternatives Considered Barracuda integrates well with Office 365 and mail flow is great. It was the first solution we found that was part of a greater suite to fit all the requirements we had. With the Email Security gateway being in the cloud, it required no extra hardware but also nothing new installed on an endpoint as some solutions require.
Read full review Avast was clunky, difficult to roll out, missed loads of malware on machines, and required that we purchase a separate license to install AV on our servers. Trend Micro could not have been any different. You just contact their sales department and get a demo, or even ask for a trial of sorts to test policy creations and client installation. You'll be obsessed with the whole process and the admin dashboard you have access to.
Read full review Return on Investment Allows us to set it and forget it. We don't have to worry about patch or upgrade to a newer version. Barracuda does it all for us. DLP has been great.
