(1-11 of 11)To infinity and beyond - with Microsoft Power BI
- Real-time dashboards representing data and marketing analytics
- Integration of several types of data sources such as Oracle SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and so on
- Unified data market composed of different dashboards from different data sources that are being updated automatically in the real-time manner
- Proper integration with ELK stack - we have encountered that there is no direct way of integration, therefore we have done it through a "bypass" way which is not convenient
- Very crowded user interface - the entry-level bar is high for average digital users. Also, it is blocking the view of the dashboards.
- We are utilizing this product for the development of real-time updating data market and dashboards for the provisioning and monitoring of marketing analytics. Moreover, by the means of the Microsoft Power Bi tool we integrating dozens of data sources into single data market, which includes Oracle Database System, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, data stream from RabbitMQ, and integration with ELK stack.
- Correlate variables
- Data visualization
- Ease of understanding of correlation between productive data
- Some of the connections could be more easy to configure
- Display the content created in the platform that all the members required.
- You can manage the experiences of the users.
- You can filter the data in a easy and efficient way.
- You need to have Azure to embed the information.
- Has some problems with forecasting budgets.
- Maintain a business model that doesn’t scale.
Best analytical tool to share your dashboards.
- It is very easy to connect multiple data sources for a single report. You can use CSV, Excel, database integration, etc.
- Power Bi supports Python as well, which makes it a lot easier for us as it is known by most of our team.
- Power BI takes a lot of time to import .xlb files compared to CSV files. CSV files usually are large in size compared to .xlb.
- DAX programming (power bi programming language) requires some learning curve.
Review of Microsoft Power BI from an Analyst
- It does a good job "acting" like Excel in the sense that once the data is imported, you can still go ahead and add/remove columns, filter rows, change data types, create calculated columns, conditional columns, etc. This makes it easier to learn.
- It does a good job of offering a clean and organized layout. For example, it is easy to switch between views and understand what each view is meant for.
- It is good with its data import functionality. You can import data from multiple sources (e.g. Excel, SQL servers, etc.). From there, you can use Navigator to choose/pick the data you want to import, as well as see a preview.
- Similar to how Excel has VBA, Microsoft Power BI uses PowerQuery (M/DAX). Though DAX is similar to Excel in terms of how it is written, I just think it's something that would be difficult for new users to figure out.
- Something I would like to see done differently in Microsoft Power BI is the ability to have presets for sorting/arranging of visualizations. Though it is nice to arrange the dashboard freely, it would also be nice to have preset arrangements based on visualizations (for those of us bad at making dashboards look appealing).
- With Microsoft Power BI, it is hard to show others your dashboard using the free platform (unless you show them from your computer/account). This can cause issues if your firm is trialing Microsoft Power BI before purchase.

- It was a little difficult to work out how to create certain visualisations, but there is extensive online help material to support with this.
- Had some issues with assigning pro licences but these were quickly resolved
- Small learning curve but no more so than similar applications
