What is Total Network Inventory?

Total Network Inventory, developed by Softinventive Lab, is a comprehensive PC audit and software inventory management solution aimed at small to large-sized companies. According to the vendor, this software is utilized by IT Administrators, Network Administrators, System Administrators, IT Managers, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) across various industries for efficient network asset management and accurate software inventory management.

Key Features

Scan everything: According to the vendor, Total Network Inventory allows scanning of a wide range of devices, including Microsoft Windows-based computers, Apple macOS-based computers, Linux-based assets, FreeBSD assets, ESX/ESXi servers, and network devices that support the SNMP protocol. No preinstalled agents are required; only the administrator's password is needed. Users can effortlessly scan single nodes, network address ranges, or even the entire Active Directory structure.

Centralized storage: Total Network Inventory offers a centralized storage solution where each computer is represented by a separate file within a regular folder on the hard drive. The vendor claims that this allows for easy file movement, backup, and sharing across multiple computers. To ensure data security, the storage can be protected with a password.

Inventory management: The vendor states that Total Network Inventory efficiently manages assets by storing each computer's data in a centralized TNI storage, occupying only several dozen kilobytes per computer. Users can group assets, add comments, and attach additional information, streamlining the organization of hardware accounting data.

Reports: Users can create flexible reports on different data categories using Total Network Inventory. The vendor claims that the software offers the ability to build table reports with hundreds of available data fields, which can be easily copied, exported, or printed. The search feature provides real-time results as users type, enhancing the efficiency of finding specific information. Additionally, users can include any number of computers and categories in a single report.

Change log: Total Network Inventory allows users to detect and browse changes in hardware and software. According to the vendor, users can track installed, uninstalled, or updated applications and monitor hardware connections or removals. The software also provides insights into disk space usage dynamics and other relevant information, enabling effective management and monitoring of network changes.

Task scheduler: The vendor claims that Total Network Inventory offers a task scheduler feature that automates routine data collection and export tasks. Users can create single or repeated tasks for scanning, reporting, data import, and export, scheduling them for specific days, times, or intervals to ensure an up-to-date inventory.

Barcodes: Total Network Inventory supports scanning and printing barcodes for inventory and labeling purposes. According to the vendor, the software offers support for popular types of linear and two-dimensional barcodes, allowing users to connect external hardware or software scanners. Users can enter and save manufacturer barcodes and generate barcodes from templates.

Monitoring: According to the vendor, Total Network Inventory enables users to poll vital hardware sensors during network scans and monitor temperature, fan speed, and power supply readings. The software provides continuous collection of hardware component statistics and analysis to detect potential problems. Alerts and assistants are available for proactive issue detection.

Network map: Total Network Inventory provides a network map feature that visualizes the structure of network devices. Users can load images or spawn preset shapes on the map, arrange assets and groups, and render the network structure. According to the vendor, users can search for and manage assets directly on the map without any limitation on map size.

Hardware inventory and reports: Total Network Inventory provides detailed information on hardware, operating systems, software, user accounts, and more. The vendor claims that the software offers categorized reports for easy examination of scanned computers, as well as customizable table reports to display desired data fields. Users can conveniently print, export, and generate reports on a schedule.
