Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 3850 Series
We are using Cisco Catalyst Switches to provide network access to our managed server network where we house our hosted servers and equipment. We are able to then use our ASA firewall to prevent our hosted servers from communicating with each other and back to our corporate network by limiting access by a couple IPs to that network.
- Able to have a failover setup
- Easy to set up and install
- Great support
- Can be pricey
- No network downtime from the switches, which has kept our customers up
- Great performance
- End of life is coming up, but I see us upgrading to a newer Cisco Catalyst Switch
We are not using the manageability features. We have very few changes so we use good old fashioned CLI commands to enter new configuration changes.
Cisco Catalyst Switches seem to have more of a variety of choices to be able to fit your needs in every situation. Juniper, however, is less costly in purchasing.
