Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp
We currently use Mailchimp to gather data through online forms and send bulk emails to announce events and other happenings within the organization. Mailchimp is a wonderful tool and a great value. The tracking and analytics are invaluable as we try to manage our user and donor base more effectively.
- Easy to design emails
- Easy to manage users
- Easy to set up online forms to grow our email database
- Navigation around the admin interface is a little bit tricky, but once you learn it, you can navigate fairly easily.
- Mailchimp has helped us promote events and fundraisers, providing signups and donations from more than 60% of attendees at an event or online fundraiser.
- Mailchimp has given us the ability to more easily stay in contact with our volunteers and specific groups of people by messaging using segmentation.
- Mailchimp is a great tool for testing the effectiveness of emails using A/B testing.
Mailchimp has a great feature set when compared to some of the other tools I've used, and it is a great value for the money. Even the free version of Mailchimp offers a good number of features to let you test it out to see if it is worthwhile to invest in.
We primarily use the email marketing piece of Mailchimp but have done some experimenting with landing pages and automation, which seem to work very well. We have some legacy products that we are continuing to use for other marketing needs but may eventually integrate them all into Mailchimp to simplify our marketing.
Most importantly, we have learned the importance of good content, a good subject line, and eye-catching graphics and headlines to make sure people open and read the emails. We also use recommended days and times to send our emails, hoping for the best open rates and click-through rates possible.

Mailchimp Feature Ratings
Ecommerce User Experience
- Segmentation
- Sign-up forms
- Email marketing
- A/B testing
Because we have so many customers spanning different categories, the segmentation feature is important to deliver appropriate messaging to these individual customer groups. The ability to create segments 'on the fly' is very helpful. We use sign up forms to understand more about our potential customers and what things interest them and then use the email marketing features to message them directly with specific offers that appeal to them, based on the segment(s) they are in. The A/B testing is also a good way to test element placement in the messages to get the best return.
We have definitely benefited from the segmentation, as it allows us to focus specifically on items that we know potential customers are interested in and market to them in a more direct manner.
Marketing Professional User Experience
- Segmentation
- Email marketing
With our marketing goals, we look closely at two factors - ROI and resulting sales. We find that a combination of segmentation to direct messages to specific customers through email is incredibly effective in keeping ROI and sales at the highest levels. It also helps with retention since we are not sending information to people if they are not interested in the message.
- None
At this point, we haven't integrated any systems with Mailchimp, but will be looking into that in the future.

3 - Everyone using Mailchimp in our organization is in the marketing department.
1 - Our marketing director supports it.
- Keeping customers informed
- Aiding in customer retention
- Gaining new customers
- Story Telling
- Giveaways and contests
- Integrate with a CRM and segment even more specifically with customized messaging based on actions.
Evaluating Mailchimp and Competitors
Yes - We replaced Constant Contact as the pricing and feature set was more attractive to us. We also used HubSpot briefly, but the investment versus return could not be justified. Nothing against either of these products, which are both excellent, but Mailchimp fit better with our needs.
- Ease of Use
I feel that we evaluated everything fairly and probably would not change the process.
Mailchimp Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal
- Moving contacts, which was not really too cumbersome
Mailchimp Training
- No Training
Absolutely! Lots of good online help as well.
Configuring Mailchimp
Follow the instructions, watch the tutorial videos available on YouTube and figure out ahead of time what you really need so you don't waste time configuring things that you will never use.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
Some - we have added small pieces of custom code - It was straightforward.
Adding more fields to the interface to handle special situations with segmenting users.
