Overall Satisfaction with Talend Product Intelligence
We used Talend to implement an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) that could contain all Supply Chain information in order to create an evolved reporting system. Moreover, we needed a flexible tool to extract and elaborate data, but also run external processes like data science algorithms that had to predict selling forecasts and raw materials supply to create some new KPIs for the production office.
- Extract from source systems
- Elaborate data
- Run external processes
- Can be used in a cloud solution
- Support not as strong as other vendors.
- If you want to use it in the best way you need to be able to do some programming.
- With ETL component you cannot join tables from different schemas.
- Reporting accessibility faster: data are elaborated and ready for reporting in a couple of hours each night for a medium-big company.
- Prediction analysis more accurate as they are elaborated with Talend and Data Science algorithms.
- Higher costs with Enterprise Solution.
In comparison with the other ETLs I used, Talend is more flexible than Data Services (where you cannot create complex commands). It is similar to Datastage speaking about commands and interfaces. It is more user-friendly than ODI, which has a metadata point of view on its own, while Talend is more classic. It has both on-prem and cloud approaches, while Matillion is only cloud-based.
