Cengage WebAssign vs. CodeMonkey

Cengage WebAssign is similar to other online textbook softwares I've used while teaching accounting online. It's a stable platform and seems easy for students to use, even if they are not extremely computer savvy.

When CodeMonkey works really well:


Introducing coding: It’s great for beginners because students learn real coding concepts through simple game challenges.


Self-paced learning: Students can move at their own speed, which helps when you have a mix of fast learners and students who need more time.


Building problem-solving skills: The puzzles require students to test ideas, debug mistakes, and try different solutions.
When it’s less appropriate: Limited opportunities for advanced coding: Students who already know a lot of programming may find the early levels too simple.

• Improves efficiency of those teaching coding.
• Lots of tutorials to help as well.

• I would like to see CodeMonkey continue to expand its AI units.

Code Monkey is easy to use for both students and teachers. It has a friendly, intuitive interface for everyone. It also offers built-in support, extensive resources, and makes it easy to manage teacher tasks.

I think all of these softwares are fairly similar in set up and ease of use. I am provided Cengage WebAssign with my pre-built SNHU courses.

Codemonkey made learning easy and fun. I think it has a leg up on the other software mentioned because it really tries to find a fun way to associate learning a difficult topic with a fun tutorial. The other software options were far more costly than Codemonkey, which makes this an even bigger win.

• Positive - Allowing our staff to enhance their skills.
• Positive - Definitely a long-term ROI in that we will not have to outsource our coding to 3rd parties.
• Negative - I feel that using it can definitely be limiting with how you learn away from the product.
