Collibra Platform vs. Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management (OEMM)

Collibra is well suited where you have multiple reporting environments and multiple source systems. Collibra works well in our environment because we can delegate roles and administration to departments or it can be used in a centralized environment. The ability to customize attributes and assets as well and integrate using the rest api is very important to us.

As mentioned in my first paragraph, we have found Oracle MetaData management to be very helpful with our training material. Because our business is constantly changing, we often have to modify terminology, procedures, photos, and more. Properly cataloging our materials allows us to use the metadata to quickly search through all resources and identify items that require revision. It is very helpful and saved a tremendous amount of time searching.

• I like that I can allocate the information according to a catalog or a categorization.

• Steep learning curve compared to other applications
• The UI can be finicky, certain actions cause the application to glitch or cause issues
• Occasionally laggy/slow to respond

Collibra offers more features [than alternatives] and is easy for business users to use. We did a proof of concept with Collibra using the Cloud service that allowed us to kick the tires and get a comfort level before we made the investment. At the time of our purchase the market was very immature and is continuing to evolve.

• ROI is hard to measure because there are so many soft benefits that come from the tool. We do have a variety of metrics that we track using Collibra to better gauge the maturity of data governance.

• EDM is not a good ROI for a single application in the Oracle Cloud.
• EDM is a good ROI for when you have multiple applications in Oracle Cloud.
• EDM is not a good ROI if you have more then 5K unique members as it get very costly.
