CourseArc vs. Mexty

CourseArc allows nearly anyone the ability to build attractive, accessible, interactive products. The platform is easy to use, has some great features and allows access to courses a variety of ways, via LTI with an LMS, open public courses, or packaged into SCORMs for access via non-LTI functional LMSs or via a webpage. CourseArc does need to enhance their image library. Because their library is very limited, users do have to upload their images the majority of the time.

I have tested Mexty to fulfill a concrete need of e-learning, Katacana (44 symbols for words imported from other languages, mainly English). I did a first test with the 2 first lines (so 10 katacana) with 20 play cards. The game was generated almost instantly (no time to go to kitchen to fetch a coffee)! Once done, I improved the game with more katacana added. Same, the game was updated quickly, making the game update an easier task, even for beginners.

• Easier access to course settings would be helpful
• The included image library is the least impressive part of the system. You will need to upload nearly all images.
• Some jumping on the page after saving

My personal experiment on Mexty, shared with members of my team and friends, has allowed them to try and create their own e-learning modules as well, saving time, cost while having great fun creating the game and using the game!

The learning curve is much easier and I don’t have to worry as much about the 508 compliance quality of our outputs. Knowing that most components are natively compliant frees my mind from worry and my time from checking our products with a fine tooth comb. I can now perform spot checks and remain confident that we are ‘legal’.
