Preqin is generally user friendly and widely recognized as a premier data provider in the private markets. I believe they are the best for sizing the markets, tracking flows/AUM, and their Insights+ package is a great value-add from a research standpoint. I think performance benchmarking is an area that the company could improve on through how they collect data and how often it is updated

Preqin is generally user friendly. I find it quite easy to create a custom benchmark, look up managers/funds using their search tool, and locate key market statistics (AUM, dry powder, fundraising, etc.)

Preqin's research is high-quality and comparable to PitchBook's. One area that I give PitchBook an edge on is their coverage of the evergreen (semi-liquid) fund market. Their annual evergreen report is extremely valuable and has great datapoints that are useful in my day-to-day. Preqin, in my view, is more institutional focused and their coverage of this particular segment is not as robust. PitchBook is also superior if you are looking for individual company data, as Preqin does not offer this feature. One area that Preqin accels at that PitchBook doesn't is market mapping and covering asset classes beyond PE, specially Real Assets (infra, real estate). If these asset classes are your priority, then Preqin would likely be a better fit
