HappyScribe vs. Lilt

Happy Scribe saves us a lot of time in generating transcripts and subtitles. We have used other services, including human transcription, and really find Happy Scribe to be adequate for a starting point. Even human transcription isn't perfect when the transcriptionist isn't familiar with the domain and specific vocabulary used.

Lilt is a great platform for translating and reviewing content for mainstream languages that are spoken by a large number of people such as Spanish, French, etc. in which case the machine translation tool does a great job of adding the appropriate fluency, grammar, and punctuations. The QA checks also likewise provide apt feedback with rarely any errors. The only shortfall for Lilt is when the content to be translated belongs to any non-mainstream languages (such as regional Indian state ones) and the most noticeable errors are thrown by the QA check tools which have several long-standing unfixed bugs.

• Machine translation is remarkably accurate, though of course not perfect.
• The entire web app experience is thoughtfully designed and implemented. Using it is a pleasure.
• A sweet feature: the ability to share editable transcripts with guests through a share link.

• Provide exact and fuzzy match feedback for translations
• Provide step by step segmented workflow for translating
• Great QA checks including Batch and Full to help detecting errors
• Good machine translation feedback to help translators

• There's not much to dislike!

• Provide greater quality feedback for non-mainstream languages such as Indian regional
• Improve punctuation and grammar fluency for non-mainstream languages

For our use, Happy Scribe's machine translation is nearly as accurate as the human translation services we used before at considerably lower cost. The web app is better designed than either of the others we tried, though we haven't used those alternatives in the past several years
