Really good fit: - Getting started with IBM i development - Getting an overview of a process or program which you have never seen before - Teaching about general IBM i usage (but you have to ignore the edits of system values on the machine) Not good to use: - If you expect working and fully analyzed modernization projects - If you rely on the correctness of the code, because you don't understand the overall syntax of the language - Working with column based RPG II code - Working on very complex systems

    Pros
    IBM
    • Fluency in COBOL RPG, and modernizing them into cloud ready frameworks. It compressed a 30 day migration down to 3 days
    • "Plan mode" creates dependency maps and multi-page technical specification drafts. Helps eradicate research overhead. It outputs a 20+ page convert blueprint in minutes
    • Generates end to end automated test suites and native browser validation. Helps extreme QA sprint efficiency without expanding headcount

    Cons
    IBM
    • Would like to see more personalization capabilities. Bob does a good job reading code and adapting to a given style, but there should be more specific personalization settings.
    • A more detailed understanding of how Bobcoins are spent would be welcome. This will help adapt to more efficient prompting.

    Usability
    IBM
IBM Bob functions well with its IDE. The interface is very versatile and configurable. But "out of the box" it is already very useful. And being able to specify which mode of operation it should use (ask, design, etc.) helps your focus and helps to tailor IBM Bob to the function you want it to perform, instead of having to write it all out in prompts.
