Microsoft Defender for IoT vs. ThingWorx

Suited in almost all situations as it has a server less option where if your end device cannot bear the load of an agent, it could be used to protect the network. The comprehensive dashboarding and its integration with Microsoft Defender 365 and Sentinel allows automated remediation and full incident investigation at a single pane. If you don't have a 24*7 SOC team this ca come handy as you can automate workbooks and scripts to run with custom triggers. I haven't faced any scenario where it is not a suitable choice.

It is well suited for situations where you require an end-to-end platform for pushing code and managing data and security of the IoT application. However, it is not well suited for the case when you want to scale the app up to many users and this requires more from the part of the product.

• Easy Integration in the form of multiple deployment options including On Prem, Azure or Hybrid Cloud
• All round protection/ Real time analytics with absolutely no performance hits
• Interoperability with Microsoft SIEM/SOAR. This helps in global threat protection with automated and cross domain network security

• Asset Monitoring - quick and easy to deploy, can connect to the plant floor and get real-time data from devices.
• Analytics - The TWX Analytics extension has a variety of analyses that can be done into any data source input into TWX.
• Alerts notification - you can program alerts to be sent via email/SMS seamlessly.

• Advanced functionality in control and data visualization often requires additional coding from the user.
• Support and tutorials provided are often lacking in detail or are not readily transferable.
• Mashup development works poorly on small monitors or laptops.

Experienced and knowledgeable customer support executives, Thingworx is a very large product and contains a myriad of features which is not easy to remember without enough training or hands-on experience

Well-suited - multiple streams from many data sources, highly scalable application scenarios.Good for a quick test of internet of things (IoT) connectivity and for deploying access via the web. Smooth deployment, easy to couple to devices. Easy cooperation with Splunk, which we use also.

• Positive: With the influx of IoT device organisations in general, we have seen significant demand of the product and hence a good revenue
• Negatively, sometimes, some preview features may significantly change or stop working, which causes client frustration
• Overall, keeping the distrust in preview features aside, 99% of the times, defender hits the right spot!
