Microsoft Defender for Identity vs. Netwrix Threat Prevention

Microsoft Defender for Identity is a great solution for each company that has an Active Directory. It fills in the blanks for Identity related incidents that are being missed in the XDR platform. To get a full view on identity risks it is an essential component

If you have an environment where there is heavy changes being made to your AD, then this is a great tool to have. Now, if your environment is being managed by one person and has very little change activity, then I would stick with searching the windows log files.

• pro-active measurements on possible breaches

• Providing a user-friendly report for user account lock outs.

• setup can be complicated, with AD complexity
• Sometimes the load on DCs is pretty high, leading to performance issues
• Better tuning options for preventing false-positive/bening alerts

• The web based reporting console could more user friendly.

They are very knowledgeable and willing to assist with any issue that may occur. We have not had to call support very often because they make sure there is a subject matter expert in place before concluding the implementation.

Microsoft Defender for Identity is more specialized on the Identity platform, it is a single solution compared to a multi-solution. The integration is better when using the XDR suite in combination with Sentinel. Microsoft Defender for Identity gives a better overview of the security posture

Varonis did a good job compared to the same things that StealthIntercept does. When it comes to configuring the reports within StealthIntercept, the configuration portion is easier. However, the web console in Varonis looked better and is a bit easier to navigate.

• Cost impact was pretty high
• Learning curve, needed time (money) for training
• Greatly improved detections and gives more insights

• This tool has helped to identify user mistakes.
• This tool has been helpful with identifying systems brute force attaching.
