Mobile Security Framework (MobSF) vs. Tripwire IP360

MobSF is good for checking for vulnerabilities in your app. It will also give suggestions on how to address them. Another thing is can do is find code that may be incorrect. It is not, however, a substitute for a system that actually checks your code for proper use. It really is concentrated on security.

I think Tripwire IP360 is suited for any environment as long as the leadership is willing to support the outcome.

• I find the Tripwire IP360 reporting features extraordinary. I can run various audit and inventory reports at any point since the inception of the tool. For example, I can execute a report on the history of an asset, which establishes a baseline and can be used to support many security objectives.
• Scan scheduling. This feature allows the tool to run independently without human intervention. I don’t have time to manually run scans of different departments. Therefore, I schedule all my audits and check the report the next day. This has worked brilliantly for 3 years now.
• Automated update of the vulnerability rules. Automatically updating these rules and binding them to the scans preserves the tool relevancy during audits

• The UI is not that user friendly
• The documentation could be easier to understand
• An easier method of deploying MobSF would be appreciated

• I’d like to see IP360 have the ability to discover additional security appliances such as PaloAlto and Fortinet appliances.

In my opinion, MobSF is not as comprehensive as SonarQube. Both, however, do a very good job in scanning your code for vulnerabilities. Both do roughly the same things. The reports of SonarQube are more detailed though. The advantage that MobSF has over SonarQube is the price. One is free while the other is a paid solution (with several tiers). However, we use them together to get a more comprehensive scan.

• It has allowed our apps to pass a security vetting requirement of a third party to deploy our app
• We can see where we can improve on the development of our app
• The deployment can take a while, especially with teams not familiar with the software

• The biggest impact Tripwire has had in the organization is risk reduction. Since the inception of the tool our vulnerabilities have been reduced by 40%.
