Overall Satisfaction with BMC AMI Data
I currently work for a company that provides IT services to many, many companies. Unfortunately, none of the clients I support currently use BMC's IMS database administration tools. However, as an IMS DBA, I've utilized BMC's AMI tools many times. Thee products are outstanding: dependable, efficient, well documented, and backed with outstanding support from BMC staff. I've used them for the entire range of IMS DBA function like image copies, reorgs, pointer checks, etc. You name it, and there's a BMC tool to help you do it. Great products!
Pros
- Quickly pointer checked IMS databases when I found myself investigating problems.
- Outstanding reorg tools with a variety of option as far as how to run them to allow DBAs to quickly and efficiently reorg databases.
Cons
- The only thing that I can say about BMC AMI tools that is even remotely negative is their cost. I've been involved at several companies over the years with converting from BMC products to those of competitors and there's never been an issue with the tools themselves, just their costs.
- BMC AMI Data minimizes outages and down time because they're extremely efficient.
