Overall Satisfaction with F5 BIG-IP DNS

We use F5 BIG-IP DNS for load balancing among availability zones and data centers. This allows us to have global high availability.

Pros

  • Global high availability
  • Health monitoring

Cons

  • Scalability
  • Single threaded control plane
  • We are able to take entire availability zones down for maintenance
  • We have higher availability for critical applications
  • Fail over is slow compared to reverse proxy load balancing due to the nature of DNS
As someone who is familiar with BIG-IP LTM the learning curve to use F5 BIG-IP DNS is low.
