Overall Satisfaction with IBM watsonx.ai

IBM watsonx.ai is great at answering general and specific queries from our developers, operations teams and even product people. The IBM watsonx.ai Assistant for Z comes with the LLM pre-loaded with the all of the IBM documents for IBM Z including their operating systems so you can get immediate value from it. Then we added documents for third party products we use as well as own application documents to he LLM. The AI can then answer questions about the systems and applications we run including going into details on the specifics like a subject matter expert. There are guardrails in place so it will now answer questions that are off topic like "How do I mix a Mojito cocktail" and if it doesn't have documentation to support an answer then it says so - it does not dream up or extrapolate an answer out of thin air like most AIs that are trying to please the user frequently do. For a great use cases, operations staff can copy and paste a WTO error message they are unfamiliar with from the console log and the AI can explain it's meaning and depending on how it's documented the AI can suggestion further action to take.

Pros

  • Explain console error messages for all operating systems
  • Can explain and tutor the user on how to use system features
  • Will not give irrelevant or made up answers

Cons

  • The LLM ingestion cannot process images or PowerPoint slides
  • The LLM ingestion cannot support old MS Word formats such as .doc or .xls
  • It's a time saver whether researching for problem determination or application or system wide knowledge
  • If self hosted then it's another system that needs to be managed.
  • It was very easy to link to IBM watsonx.ai from our developer tooling
Giving accurate and relevant answers to the chat query, it prompts with more information that might be useful, does also allow you to follow on and ask for more detail or the origin in the documentation that provided the answer in case the user wants to know more immediately or wishes to read the original form of documentation themselves.
It allows anyone using the AI to instantly get subject matter expert levels of answer to any query they have. This is great if SMEs are scarce or in different time zones to the person looking for information.
The strength of the IBM watsonx.ai is that it doesn't extrapolate answers it doesn't have in the LLM which could be misleading.

If a new member of staff comes across an unfamiliar warning or error message the AI can explain it to them in seconds. No need to search shared drives, sharepoints, notes etc. to try and find the relevant document with an explanation.
