Overall Satisfaction with MySQL Workbench

We use this for a MySQL database access. We write queries and often need to use the SSH tunnel feature. We like that it's free and works well for the most part.

Pros

  • Readily available too for quick and easy SQL queries
  • Maintains upgrades
  • Works across multiple OS platforms

Cons

  • On the Mac version, quitting always throws an exception. More of an annoyance but still. This should have been fixed a long time ago.
  • For basic MySQL users e.g. people who query databases it's a great tool.
  • For more complex queries you'll want something with more horsepower that can integrated in version control and calculate execution time/cost.
It's a very usable tool for general staff and junior developers. For more complex database management and tuning, we'll use other products
It's like comparing a VW to an performance car like a Ferrari. If you need the performance, bells and whistles you'll want PhpStorm. If you just need to get from one place to another, MySQL Workbench will do just fine.

Do you think MySQL Workbench delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with MySQL Workbench's feature set?

Did MySQL Workbench live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of MySQL Workbench go as expected?

Would you buy MySQL Workbench again?

It works best when you need to create basic queries or manage an simple MySQL schema. For more complicated data modeling, I'll use another tool. You can't beat the price though.
