The interface has definitely improved over the years but it was always fairly simple to navigate and setup. We rarely need to access the AWS website and the tools we use to encrypt and send data to Amazon S3 have never had an issue uploading or retrieving data from the S3 bucket. Your bucket names have to be unique throughout the world though, so you can't use a name for a storage bucket that another user has selected.

The standards employed by Amazon S3 have allowed many other software packages to interact with your data bucket, so there are quite a few options available when looking for a backup tool.

It is tricky to get it all set up correctly with policies and getting the IAM settings right. There is also a lot of lifecycle config you can do in terms of moving data to cold/glacier storage. It is also not to be confused with being a OneDrive or SharePoint replacement, they each have their own place in our environment, and S3 is used more by the IT team and accessed by our PHP applications. It is not necessarily used by an average everyday user for storing their pictures or documents, etc.

The UI is clunky. The CLI is a little esoteric and hard to grapple with. The API documentation is pretty good, but I would recommend wrapping a very thin wrapper class/package around it if you expect to use it a lot. There is a lot of overhead you can cut off by implementing your own code.

AWS has provided a very easy-to-use console for all of their products, including S3, which has a simple drag-and-drop interface that walks you through anything you need to do. They also have a very simple command-line utility, and several programmatic interfaces to access all of your data from anywhere and any language.

It has a lot of functionality. However, some of it is hidden within the remote command line interface. Setting up more advanced use cases can require a decent amount of research and possible a call to tech support. Overall it is solid.

It is very easy to use and can be integrated using the full spectrum of languages. Most have languages with libraries or packages that already create easy-to-use methods that hook into the API.
