Reviews
(1-25 of 30)- The best part about Druva is that you deploy, which is fairly easy especially with your technical rep being available for the whole process, and then you let the system do your work. If a backup fails I get a report, there is no need to check it every day or even weekly.
- The file server backup is great. Searching is easy and the capability to pull back a full folder or individual file makes life a lot easier to support my end users.
- One piece of functionality that I would like to see enhanced is the file server back up search to include folder search. File search is available to restore, but folder recovery requires you to drill down into the location of the folder to restore.
Druva Phoenix review
- Simple to use, hardly had any training issues.
- Fast backup and recoveries.
- Cloud repository.
If sites do not have high speed internet connection, then it may not be recommended as it will slow up backup and restore speed.
Phoenix is like insurance, better if you don't have to use it, but if you have to use it, thank God you bought it. Priceless!
- Data safety.
- Critical failures do not paralyze the company.
- "Restful sleep."
- A clearer description of how it works.
- Lower price.
- Simple price list.
Druva Phoenix - great cloud based backup
- Easy to deploy - Druva are a great company to deal with, and will help get things running, but like their other products, Phoenix is not difficult to implement if you know your stuff.
- Great de-duplication - backups are deduped across the entire estate, leading to very efficient storage usage.
- Phoenix is fast - backups complete quickly, even initial full backups are quick, relative to their size.
- The UI is good, but a bit inconsistent. Some types of backups are shown differently to others. It never gets in the way, but a bit more consistency would be good.
- The system is usage based, which is understandable, but a shock after using inSync, their other backup product, which is not. Careful planning and thought is needed if you are on a tight budget
Reliable and easy to use
We started using Druva InSync a few years before using Phoenix and it turned out to be a great solution for endpoint backup, so when we needed a cloud-based backup solution for our servers, we decided to give Phoenix a try and it worked as good as InSync.
- Easy to deploy, it takes minutes to be up and running.
- Easy to use and flexible, the web console is intuitive and makes it easy to configure and monitor the status of your backups.
- Reliable. Once you have set up your policies and servers, it works by itself.
- Reporting, it can be hard to tell the actual amount of space consumed by a specific recovery point.
- DRaaS is not easy to deploy since you have to work on AWS and Phoenix.
- It does not provide a solution for Azure workloads.
- On-prem or AWS workloads: VMware, Hyper V, Windows, Linux, SQL.
Not appropriate:
- Microsoft Exchange on-prem (Druva does not have a specific agent for Exchange as it does for SQL)
- Azure workloads
- If you need your backups to be stored on a cloud different from AWS
The flight of the (Druva) Phoenix
- Offsite backups so we didn't have to use other means to get our backups offsite. Plus our data is available if something physically happens to our location.
- We love Druva Phoenix for its ease of use. It was very easy to set up and monitor the status of all of our backups. The console is great!
- Compression and de-duplication is phenomenal. We usually are sitting at 12.6x space savings. This is incredible.
- No onsite equipment to worry about. No more tapes, tape drives, and external hard drives are needed since it is all in the cloud. Also, no need for a separate backup server. You can use the server that would have been needed for backing up for something else.
- The security. The fact that Druva encrypts everything and they cannot even access the data without being part of our organization provides comfort on the protection of our data.
- No more upgrading/updating of software. Druva takes care of all of that. When new features are added, you have instant access to them.
- Deduplication
- Fast backups
- Growing features
- Easy to use
- Great Console
- Auto detection of database when backing up machine so database jobs can be auto-created
- The need for an offsite backup location when your location is highly volatile.
- The need for secure offsite storage of your data.
- The need to set and forget it. The fact that you can monitor the console or use the emailed reports to get status on your backups.
- The need for minimizing your hardware footprint.
Druva Phoenix + VMware vSphere are a match made in heaven!
- Integrates well with VMware vSphere.
- Annual health checks.
- Detailed reporting on credit consumption.
- Interface could use a revamp to be more intuitive.
- Appliances could do more snapshots at a time.
- Appliances could upload faster if allowed to utilize more than 1023mbps.
The luxury automobile of cloud backups
- Backup of different Virtual Machine environments
- Fast restore on both file level and machine level
- Reporting on what is going on and when
- Supporting their product with excellent service staff who are knowledgeable and relatable
- Improve visibility into how much each system costs to backup
- Clean up the web UI
Druva Phoenix small business use case
- It is easy to use.
- It is cost-efficient in comparison to competitors.
- It is HIPAA compliant.
- They sign a Business Associate Agreement with your organization if necessary.
- Depending on the size of your business, it can be cost-prohibitive since the minimum purchase is a year's worth of service.
- You do need someone who knows what they are doing to set up the backups and make sure you don't over-consume your credits with crazy retention policies.
Druva, however, is a company oriented more towards medium-enterprise rather than small businesses. Depending on your income, it can be expensive relative to the income of the company.
Druva Phoenix: The Right Stuff
- The global deduplication of data technology helps our data storage go 10x further than other solutions.
- Easy to install and get your first backups going
- Easy to restore previous versions of files
- We haven't had trouble running the client on unsupported versions of CentOS, but we would like them to keep up as we won't sacrifice VM security because of the backup solution.
Druva Phoenix is well suited to file version recovery if a previous data state is required by your employees or customers. Very quick to restore.
Review of Druva Phoenix as a DRaaS solution
Currently we are using it to back up virtual machines in a VMware environment. Primarily the role of Phoenix within the institution is a DRaaS solution which allows us to quickly get the service up and running should there be an outage within the institute, e.g. DC power failure, network disconnection.
- DRaaS.
- Backup and Restore to on-premise hardware.
- Deduplication.
- Better client support especially in the DRaaS functionality.
- Improving ease of use with AWS.
- Support for other public cloud.
Do bear in mind that as this is a SaaS, there is a need to right size the internet bandwidth from your DC to Phoenix. The more workloads and the larger the workloads, especially in environment with large amount of changes daily > leads to higher traffic to cloud, thus proper planning of your backup window and internet bandwidth is a key consideration.
Druva is to cloud backup like Amazon is to online shopping! It just works and it's a great deal!
- All in one dashboard/ingle pane of glass.
- Deduplication.
- Many alerting options.
- Easy to use and navigate.
- Powerful reporting tools.
- There are none that I can think of.
Druva Phoenix is the best cloud backup solution
- Fast backups.
- Fast restores.
- Excellent deduplication.
- Application aware backups.
- Cannot backup a GPT vmdk.
- Proxy deployment is not always successful.
- User interface could be more intuitive.
Druva Phoenix Review
- Handling of snapshots using hot snapshot method.
- Support for backups and restores of MS-SQL servers.
- Logs can be downloaded at will for details troubleshoot purpose.
- Reports configuration.
- Alerting.
- Access management for non-admin users.
- Support for exchange.
- Support for other DB's.
- Extended support for Linux based servers/VM's.
Druva
- Backups.
- Restore.
- Refresh.
- They could make the program run a bit faster.
- Make the program a bit easier for customers to use.
- Work better with smartphones.
Druva Phoenix POC
- Cloud-based solution for off-site storage with possible local (cloud) cache to increase performance.
- Easy to use interface, Active Directory Single Sign-On (AD SSO) for authentication and relatively simple deployment of virtual proxy servers.
- Good support structure. We had an issue where our third data center with just vSAN witness hosts that have no storage attached prevented automatic discovery. After increasing the logging level with support, engineering was quick to find the problem and provide a patch that could be installed on the proxy servers.
- The reports and analytics are rather primitive and bare, and cannot sort columns. New data/duration (throughput) would be nice for instance. CSV exports combine date and time (harder to use in a spreadsheet).
- Cannot create an API token within just the Druva Phoenix (as Phoenix Cloud Administrator, let alone multi-tenancy scope).
Druva Phoenix Rising
- Easy to use
- Easy to set up
- Logs need to be more transparent
- There should be an option to see ALL backup jobs
Druva Phoenix, A Price to Pay to Not Worry About Back-ups
- Back-up policies with complete clarity of what is being backed up and how often.
- File-level restores.
- Deduplication of data to provide fair and effective usage of Druva's credit-based billing system.
- Support. Once when I had an open case during set-up, I heard more from the support team than I did their salesmen which really shows their dedication to solving issues.
- Their pricing and credit usage structure can use some refinement. We had a hard time knowing and learning how much space our data was going to take up which made billing/pricing a hard question.
- More Hyper-V support, particularly with their Disaster Recovery options which is still currently VMWare only.
- There error self-help page. Some times a back-up for a day will fail. Most of the time they will have an error attached explaining why. I have noticed sometimes not only will it not show an error at all, but not all of their errors are also documented.
Druva is worth having
- Fast backup data.
- Daily backup data.
- Fast and easy restores based on domain user accounts.
- None that I can think of.
Druva Phoenix Review
- Easy user interface.
- All in one dashboard.
- Cloud-based.
- Dashboard app.
- Still figuring this out!
Druva Phoenix Rocks!
- Backup to Gov Cloud.
- Lightweight agent.
- Backing up of NAS devices could be improved.
- Faster file scanning could be improved.
Druva Phoenix Review
- Ease of use.
- Ease of installation.
- Excellent de-duping.
- Credits system can be confusing.
Best product on the market.
- VMware backups - no client needed, just needs to be able to take a snapshot
- NAS backups, ease of configuring files/folder to exclude.
- Full system restores take just seconds to set up
- Cloud cache is not the easiest to set up
- Does not dedup SQL data very well
- Random failures when Druva is doing maintenance
Druva Phoenix Review
- VMWare virtual server backups via hypervisor.
- Clean intuitive admin portal.
- Support for most server OS flavors.
- System state server backup is not supported. This is not an OS configuration backup tool. Need to run system state dump on Windows which Druva will then backup.
- Druva Phoenix is not tightly integrated into Druva inSync.
Rises from other backup's ashes. Dedupe till the clouds come home.
We want to reduce backup budget because tapes is costly and we have a complex on-prem setup. Annual support renewals and hardware renewals add to cost.
Main objective was to move backup to the cloud and reduce cost.
- Cloud storage
- Disaster recovery service
- Vmware proxy.
- Maybe a single proxy for NAS, CIFS, NFS, vCenter.
- better error logs, not getting the info I need based on current logs.
- Ability to do multiple schedules on a single policy?
easy management helps lean IT Dept to implement backup without too much outside help.
