What is Fraps?

Fraps, developed by Beepa Pty Ltd, is a Windows application designed to enhance the gaming experience. According to the vendor, it functions as benchmarking software, screen capture software, and real-time video capture software, catering to the needs of game developers, video game publishers, graphic designers, content creators, and video editors. Fraps is suitable for companies of all sizes.

Key Features

Benchmarking Software: Fraps displays the Frames Per Second (FPS) in a corner of the screen, conducts custom benchmarks, and measures the frame rate between any two points. It also records statistics for reviews and applications.

Screen Capture Software: Fraps allows users to effortlessly capture screenshots with a single key press. It automatically assigns names and timestamps to the screen captures for convenient organization.

Realtime Video Capture Software: Fraps enables users to record videos while playing games. It supports audio and video recording of up to 7680x4800 resolution with customizable frame rates ranging from 1 to 120 frames per second, ensuring exceptional recording quality.

Hybrid OpenDML/AVI Files: Fraps permits the creation of AVI movie files larger than 4 gigabytes. It writes hybrid OpenDML/AVI files, enabling the storage of large movies on NTFS drives. Additionally, users have the option to split files at 4 gigabytes to maintain compatibility with legacy AVI 1.0 support.

Customizable Frame Rate: Fraps provides users with the flexibility to specify the video capture frame rate, ranging from 10 to 100 frames per second. It supports various video formats, including 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94 fps.

Hardware Mouse Cursor Capture: Fraps captures the screen with or without the hardware mouse cursor overlay. It also offers an option to exclude the hardware cursor from being saved in videos.

256 Color Video and Screen Capture: Fraps supports capturing games in 256 color mode, ensuring compatibility with older DirectX games. It captures videos and screenshots with excellent quality and smaller file sizes.

Support for DirectX 9 and OpenGL: Fraps is compatible with DirectX 9 and OpenGL applications, allowing users to capture videos and screenshots seamlessly. It offers optimized video capture performance, particularly for DirectX 9 titles, even at extreme resolutions.
