Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Our SQL Sentry installation is realitively complex. We monitor over 250 instances using multiple monitors hosted on multiple hosts providing access into various firewalled networks. In general SQL Sentry requires little support on a day to day bases other than backups of the repositroy. Upgrades are a different story and require a person with database administration skills, basic networking skills and the abiltiy to work with services on a windows operating system. We spend about 8 manhours on an upgrade. That said Sentry One's latest release has an automated upgrade feature, I hope it works as designed.

If you want to make use of the custom alerting capabilities then be prepared for a steep learning curve.

Database administrators and data developers get the most benefit out of Sentry One. In the absence of a network operations center, the light, fairly complete trace allow for us to know what happened while we weren't watching. Understanding the information presented and why it is important require an understanding of SQL server and Azure databases

SQL Sentry provides significantly detailed help and information resources, which enables non SQL Server DBAs and Management the ability to review the platform and cross reference metrics, enabling a better understanding of the SQL Server platform.

The support requirements to keep this tool running are extremely low. The minimum required footprint is really just one server depending on the load and number of servers being monitored. Our DevOps team is able to handle this within their team. They perform the initial installation and handle upgrades as well as license expansion.

My L3 Database Administrator handles the main installation and configuration of SQL Sentry. We run mainly with out-of-box features which don't take a lot of skills to implement. Where I see a higher level of skill needed is configuring and setting up custom alerts where you need a better understanding of events being triggered an how to resolve them when they're triggered.

Other than installing it and making sure that it has a well provisioned server, SQL Sentry doesnt require much support; they have their own team that helps with any questions, the few times we've needed them, they've been very responsive and helpful.
