Transit Tees creates Chicago-inspired apparel and gifts. We use BigCommerce as our online storefront. It is fairly simple for anyone in the company to log in and track customer orders. It has made it easy for us to add new products or remove out-of-stock or discontinued products.
  • BC has a simple user interface that just about anyone can use. No coding or web design expertise is needed.
  • It is very easy to add or change categories of products or move products into different categories.
  • Adding new pages to your site is easy and intuitive.
  • I would like to see more customization options available once you choose a template.
  • Setting up a wholesale account option for customers is missing some key elements. ie. Being able to set minimum orders.
  • It has made it easier to get our products in front of customers by offering an easy to use system.
  • Tracking orders is very easy and has increased our ability to ship faster.
  • Responding to customer questions or comments is very easy as well.
I did some research into Shopify but ultimately the decision to use BigCommerce was not mine.
Unless there was a simple way to transfer our BC store onto a different system without having to rebuild (like Shopify) I don't think it would be worth the effort to switch. Also, employees have become used to the BC system and despite a few flaws it is working pretty well for us.
It's great if you're a small company with a limited budget and just need a simple online storefront. If you are a larger company and would like more customization you may want to consider a professionally built site. Also, if you need a website for other purposes in addition to a store (ie offering graphic design services) it may not be ideal.
