JetBrains

CLion is best suited for day to day IDE for C and c++ programming projects. It integrates inbuilt support for GNU Compiler Collection (gcc) and works like a breeze on linux and *nix based platforms. While using this CLion IDE for different versions of projects, we faced a little difficulty to compare the differences of two versions of same file. This could be taken care of in next versions.

Enthought Canopy is best suites for scripting data analytical concepts. It has a wide range of data analytical libraries and also is good for data visualization. I would not recommend using Enthought Canopy only as an IDE, there may be better options available. If you're looking for a good data simulation & visualization package, Canopy it is.

Enthought

  • Providing scientific libraries, both open source and Enthought's own libraries which are excellent.
  • Training. They provide several courses in python for general use and for data analysis.
  • Debugging tools. Several IDEs provides tools for debugging, but I think they are insufficient or too general. Canopy has a special debugging tool, specially design for python.

    Usability

    JetBrains

CLion does everything I ask it to do. For me, Unreal Engine 4 compatibility was essential and Epic Game and JetBrains delivered a solid alternative to spending a huge amount of money on the "standard" IDE for game development on Windows. The user interface is sharp and modern without all of the silly frills many software suites now employ. It integrates well with source control systems we use and also works well, as expected, with other JetBrains development tools and assistants.

I am giving it a 9 out of 10 because I did not even need official support from the CLion team but rather, every time I came across a problem, I have been able to solve it within the community itself. This is so precious that you don't even need the help of the program's development/support team. There's a huge community of users that backs you up.

    Alternatives Considered

    JetBrains

CLion is at par when compared with many established IDEs. With lesser cost in owning this IDE to the ease of use of this IDE it can be very well chosen and opted for the main IDE with in your organization. Its plugin add on capabilities will surely help to integrate other compilers of other programming languages.

Before Canopy with its python we were working with Matlab. We decided for Canopy against Matlab for two reasons: First, we believe that python together with NumPy or SciPy can achieve the objectives with less code and therefore less training, and second the prizes are much lower than matlab which is most robust, expensive and less intuitive. It's clear we are making the comparison with python and it has nothing to with canopy. But with Canopy you feel you have all those tools close together without the problem of configuration, besides a lot of personalized libraries that complements a typical python environment.
