CoreMedia vs. Hygraph

I think this CMS is best suited as an enterprise level system. For small, or simple sites, there are better options, but for large high-traffic sites, this is a great CMS.

I would recommend GraphCMS to anyone who is also using Gatsby to build their website. If not, I would recommend them to consider GraphCMS but also consider other options. GraphCMS is a tool in which you are responsible to make the most out of it, but sometimes this requires more time and knowledge than a normal engineer may be able to handle. But with more time and attention, the reward of off-lifting content creation from the developers is a huge time saver in the long run.

• Allows many staff members to contribute content to various portions of our website, and allows our Electronic-Communications staff to delegate tasks to these various staff (diffusing the work-load).
• CoreMedia allows for easy creation of different types of content (like teasers, articles, download objects, links, etc). Permission levels can be set, so only certain staff can upload content such as photos, videos, or audio files.
• The CoreMedia workflow process is easy to understand and follow. Once a staff member has submitted content for publishing to the web, they can then see who it's been assigned to for review, and at what time. You're able to leave detailed notes and stay abreast of where the workflow is at any given time.

• GraphCMS is easy to work with from the "non-engineer" side of things.
• GraphCMS is very flexible on what data models we can create and how those models are formed.
• GraphCMS uses Graph API, which is easy to write (compared to older API patterns).

• Early learning within the company was slow.
• We elected a customized version of CoreMedia - which in the end may not have been the best decision.

• GraphCMS is very expensive at the enterprise level.
• GraphCMS requires deep knowledge of the system and requires lots of time to be efficient with it (especially around creating specific data patterns/relationships).
• Multiple times a day, the system will give us errors when attempting to save something but the errors are unclear as to what went wrong (can be irritating).

CoreMedia continues to refine and deliver new features. They also explore new technologies and trends, like social media integration. The platform is solid and growing. We are also slightly locked into using CoreMedia. Migrating such a large amount of content to another system would likely not be feasible or prudent.

Set aside more time than you think you need to migrate content. That is the hard part. Implementing the technology is easy.

While CoreMedia has a better workflow, django CMS has a much easier user interface, wysiwyg editor, and is superior on every other level. Django CMS is easier to teach and support, easier to manage and develop, and provides much more flexibility in the development and design areas.

We picked GraphCMS since it used Graph API and easily integrated it into our Gatsby website. It was also cheap (free) and easy to test out the product, making it easier to prove to our company we should pay for the product in the long run. Lastly, it seems to have a bunch of support from other developers which makes us confident will be around for a while (and we won't need to replace it anytime soon). Note: I also looked at Directus and DatoCMS but these were not options within TrustRadius

• Increased employee proficiency compared to nothing at all. I really don't have anything else to compare it to though.
• Reports from Core do not help/.

• Better use of time for our engineers in the long run.
• More control of content for people outside of the engineer team.
• Allows people to edit the content on their own, so they don't need to wait until a developer is available to add something to the website.
