Dell VxBlock System 1000 vs. Pivot3 Acuity

VBlock is extremely well-suited for reliable delivery of virtualized mixed workloads. VBlock provides necessary hardware abstraction that allows for, uninterrupted by hardware failures, continuous delivery of critical services that otherwise do not provide hardware failure resiliency. VBlock is not the best solution from a financial standpoint for cost-sensitive solutions that are programmed for software resiliency.

It is only suitable for a vSphere deployment. This particular cluster is best suited for very demanding workloads.

• Deployment was very easy. Pivot3 staff were involved in the POC, and the transition was fairly smooth.
• This is an all-flash hyperconverged cluster. It is easily scalable and has excellent performance.
• We frequently burst internal virtual workloads, and this 5 node cluster can support around 15,000 IOPs and 1 GB/sec of throughput.

• Product is not simple to manage.
• Product is very expensive. Documentation is too complicated to understand.

• The cluster is actually very easy to use. It might be nice if the dashboard had more detailed metrics, but those are available in a different interface.

We reviewed the technology and pricing prior to commencing a POC. Pivot3 looked the best initially and delivered. We did not test the others ourselves.

• VBLock has eliminated unforced downtime occurrences in the environment.
• VBlock support model has significantly reduced amount of effort allocated to hardware installation and support activities and firmware maintenance.

• Definitely a positive ROI. We are not seeing some of the latency issues that were beginning to crop up on our older hardware.
