F5 Beacon vs. Grafana Cloud

It is very well suited in complex, multi-cloud application environments where it provides holistic, application-centric visibility by ingesting data from NGINX and other telemetry sources. It helps troubleshoot performance issues in high-availability and regulated environments where outages have a high impact on strict SLAs. It is less appropriate in situations where organizations rely on unmaintained or archived integrations.

Just about any organization with more than one server and more than one cluster as it scales very well. Configuration of the application takes time and finesse to fine tune to where the balance of load time and getting data quickly meets. The plugins add load time but fine tuning for the application to meet demand needs nailed down at implementation

• It supports seamless multi cloud and hybrid monitoring with easy integration.
• It provides actionable insights for faster troubleshooting.
• It delivers comprehensive end to end application visibility.

• Alerting through many different medium as Slack, Email, Webhook etc
• Beautiful and unlimited number of dashboards to view your metrics and tweak them as you please
• Log aggregation and powerful Logql to filter and view your logs
• Microservices monitoring
• Large number of plugins and data sources to collect your metrics from almost anywhere

• F5 needs improvement in Platform Stability and Maintenance gaps.
• It has limited built-in insights and relies heavily on customization.
• Application modeling and data ingestion setup is complex.

• There are some settings which we can't configure from UI (Web Console).
• We've open[ed] up configuration files in command line text editors and manually do the settings e.g. LDAP/SSO configuration.
• In terms of visualization, it's best, but it doesn't support log analysis otherwise it could destroy business of all other visualization tools.

The reason for the above rating is that F5 Beacon delivers clear visibility, helpful insights, and streamlined decision-making, which, in turn, translates into a better user experience. Beacon easily ingests telemetry from multiple sources, including NGINX, BIG-IP devices, and third-party platforms. The Beacon insight engine generates actionable recommendations and performs anomaly detection.

It is infinitely flexible. If you can imagine it, Grafana can almost certainly do it. Usability may be in the eye of the beholder however, as there is time needed to curate the experience and get the dashboards customized to how it makes sense to you. I know one thing they are working on are more templates, based on data sources

F5 Beacon is best for F5-centric, hybrid, app-centric visibility, whereas Datadog is best for cloud-native, distributed observability. F5 beacon is superior for understanding BIG-IP flows, WAF, ADC behavior at the app level. It has a unified view of F5-powered applications. F5 Beacon simplifies troubleshooting across multicloud F5 deployments. Beacon provides business logic level visibility.

Grafana blows Nagios out of the water when it comes to customization. The ability to feed almost any data source makes it very versatile and the cost is great.

• Positive - It provides deep, application-centric visibility by aggregating telemetry from NGINX and other sources.
• Positive - It improved decision making about scaling, security, and resource allocation.
• Negative - Setup and Maintenance is a bit complex.

• Grafana has replaced many higher priced tools
• The integrations are seemless with multiple backends
• Combining graphs and dashboards from multiple data sources is a game changer
