Firecracker vs. Nerdio

While deploying workloads in lightweight microVMs presents a couple of perks, Firecracker may not be the best software to handle this. Startup times are slow and scalability is quite limited because of the jailer and virtualization barriers. We have had security breaches on isolated EC2 instances while using Firecracker. It however has a silver lining by improving how serverless functions in container ecosystems are run with their VMMs.

Nerdio's well positioned in dynamic user count environments, for sure. Or where user's are brought on temporarily and new IT hardware purchase isn't cost effective. If you'd in an environment where frequent application updates are needed, Nerdio handles this with an image model. Less appropriate in predictable, basic computing environments.

• Excludes devices unnecessarily
• Has a slow startup time the basis being to improve security which is quite irrelevant.
• It has limited functionalities on monitoring VMs despite being an open source.

• Default printers! If you work form home and it will switch up your printers. Even if you don't work from home it will switch it sometimes.
• Disk space seems a little expensive too :(

Migrating to Azure Virtual Desktop can be a daunting experience as you have to instantly get things right for the users. Nerdio makes it a lot easier to understand all the options within Azure that it overlays, meaning you can get up to speed far quicker and with more accuracy

We ran an RDS environment for 20 years and Citrix was always a very expensive option with a deep and rich working environment, however I feel that Nerdio is a far superior product that's been born in the cloud and fits the more modern VDI requirements of businesses. We choose Nerdio on price and ease of use.

• Low memory overhead on each microVM
• We can run workloads from different customers on the same machine.

• We have far less problems and our employees are all much more productive (almost too productive!)
• It is a little expensive, so it will take us some time to see the savings.
