Any time you want to perform offline password cracking exercises, Hashcat is going to be able to do that for you. I can't think of any scenario where you have a password hash you need to crack where another tool would be more suited to the task. Hashcat, of course, works best when you have a GPU available, but you can even use it on a VM if you use the --force flag.

It’s the Swiss Arny knife of data and email so you can move across operating systems and platforms but it isn’t dynamic if you get a setting wrong- you need to do it over again.

  • Needs to be dynamic in set up
  • Need to be able to correct settings after set up- you need to ensure everything is correct because you cannot change it once you set it up.
  • Maybe offer AI based help?

It’s fantastic when it works but it’s a little too rigid in wanting everything set up perfectly upfront with no wiggle room to change a setting afterwards

I haven’t used BDR as much but its interface is pretty straightforward.
Errors are sometimes difficult to diagnose as their help is weak in that regard. it does the job and allows multi backups and if it’s set up properly; it can be handy.
Managing licenses is non-existent (at least I couldn’t figure out how to best manage for ISO requirements.

  • ROI versus time saved in manpower is top notch
  • Sometimes divisions get sold a “bill of goods” solution that isn’t right for them but they don’t realize it until it’s been implemented and then at first opportunity they want to move to something else. SysTools Migration Tools is great for that
  • My only complaint is that the set up has to be perfect and you cannot change the settings- sometimes that’s frustrating
