Huawei CloudEngine Data Center Switches vs. Juniper EX Series Switches

The focus of the solution is datacenter, so it is a waste of resources to use them as SOHO or as access switches. All your robustness needs to be used correctly, so that there is no wasted investment. I also note that, as good practices, it is necessary to ensure redundancy and availability of assets and connections, so the investment is high, even more so if you need to mix fiber and twisted pair solutions.

Juniper EX Series Switches are well suited for my environment (school system) and my staff who don't have a lot of experience in configuring and troubleshooting all the various switches and platforms. Juniper EX Series Switches have been a real blessing to us. Everything I need to do with them is easy to learn and I've experiences no problems with them not behaving properly.

• Commit Confirmed - saves lots of headache and possibly travel if a remote goes awry
• Stacking - switches can be stacked together easily with regular network cables, using any port
• L3 routing on any switch model, even BGP with the right license

• Documentation, like every huawei product, needs improvement
• The official training of this solution is extremely boring and theoretical. It is necessary to make something more practical and useful in everyday life.
• As it is a line for datacenters, I believe that the product needs a better development in its chassis. It seems very fragile to me.

• Virtual chassis new switch has overwritten existing config if not performed in a particular way.
• Applying a configuration to a range of interfaces could be done in a better way.
• Applying firewall rules to multiple security zones could be done a little more efficiently.

I can't speak highly enough. It requires no prior networking ability to succeed using these switches. The Mist console makes it so anyone with a technical side can use them efficiently. The configuration copies over easily. A Juniper EX4100 switch can literally just be plugged into power and an ethernet cable and work. Add the code to the Mist and you can see what you need to see

Many times when contacting Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches support, it seems that it is easiest for support to recommend a straight replacement (RMA) instead of taking time to walk through a solution on the faulty system. We find we get better help from a third-party consulting firm that has Juniper certified technicians or professionals on staff. They take the time to explain processes and workflow, which Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches support seems to shy away from.

The Huawei CloudEngine Data Center Switches solution, as the name implies, is aimed at Datacenters and ToR applications. The development of such equipment was all designed to meet high processing loads and connections of servers, storages and other high-performance assets. The other solutions evaluated (and some we even have in our park) are for other purposes, such as access and edge.

Similar cloud platform to manage switches and able to update everything there. Going from on-prem config back up to the cloud doesn’t work as well in either place. They want you to manage in the cloud only but no good way to push from on-premises to cloud and update that way.

• Support for 60 months guarantees better predictability when evaluating new investments of this type.
• Product redundancy ensures greater availability of the entire infrastructure and applications, thus reducing downtime.

• Price of Juniper for the performance is much better than the other leading vendor.
• I have had minimal problems which frees me to focus on other areas.
• Mist is intuitive and comes with free training. My Junior network admins were able to get up to speed quickly.
