IBM CICS Transaction Server product works well in conjunction with IBM DB2 and they go together very well. Both are equally scalable and reliable products to use. They both can handle very large numbers of transactions and have been around for decades and stood for times and …
There is no comparison, in practice, the possibility of using the latest programming languages but, above all, the databases can be different and more modern than DL1.
Naturally, during the software selection, other tools from other similar vendors were compared as functionalities. more benchmarks have been made to control the Omegamon overhead on applications. certainly, it has influenced the fact that the mainframe base software is IBM and …
The strengths of CICS are certainly the scalability. The multilevel architecture of the CICS regions, security, and performance, manages to manage large volumes of transactions with efficient performances.
Certainly, the tool is useful for debugging applications and for real-time monitoring. It's a bit less useful, not to say useless when applications are client servers. We have used it heavily above all to optimize the DB/2 applications. We managed to reduce the need for additional MIPS year by year.
