Navicat vs. timextender

Navicat Premium is a very well-rounded tool with a reasonable licensing fee given its feature set. It is primarily suited for technical resources who must work with a variety of different database systems, but who may not be database or command line tool wizards. However, its query building and job batch scheduling feature support end-users as they build competency, and it continues to hold its value even as users outgrow their training wheels. Navicat is probably not so appropriate for DBAs and others for whom database development and management is already a career path; these folks have their preferred toolsets, both vendor-supplied and homegrown, and they might consider the additional licensing cost to outweigh the value they'd personally get out of Navicat.

TimeXtender has worked really well with our customers who have different data sources using complex data types in large quantities requiring a DW-like solution that can consolidate all data sources at one-HUB. TimeXtender does this well, and provides automation capabilities, the ability to easily handle slowly changing dimensions, handing data lineage and data security very well. TimeXtender has the ability to be very customizable, allowing the HUB to grow as your business does. TimeXtender's customer support team is super helpful and will work with you throughout your implementation to make sure you reach success with the product. The ROI for timeXtender versus competing products (there aren't many that do what timeXtender does) shows the investment to be worthwhile for the majority of organizations in today's data-rich corporate world.

• Really helpful auto-completion.
• Can connect to multiple (different) database types simultaneously.
• Can generate some really impressive charts.
• The new data dictionary tool is great!

• It has the ability to create one dynamic 'DW' or source of truth, consolidating all data sources in one HUB.
• Ease of use, with a great UI that is easy to learn and adapt to.

• Product Marketing: As implementers and resellers of this technology, we loved it. But, convincing clients who had not previously heard of TX/Discovery Hub was more difficult than it could have been if the company had a larger marketing force behind it.
• Relatively New to Market: it creates a learning curve for early implementers.
• More information should be published on timeXtender's website about product lines, including testimonials.

There is quite a lot to learn because Navicat Premium is a very comprehensive database management and development tool, but it's User Interface is intuitive enough to pick up fairly quickly. I have also referred to the documentation on occasion, and can attest that it is quite good. I feel that it works best on a large monitor, but that's fairly common for this sort of software.

Very robust online community and well as excellent support staff. Easy to follow video tutorials. Detailed sample configurations are provided with guided walk-throughs via remote classroom instruction. Very fast response from support staff. No internal hires were necessary for support as vendor support staff fully met all technical expertise. 24/7 incident reporting and tracking is great.

Navicat allows for easier querying of data while still allowing for visualization and modeling

For our clients, timeXtender was a much better solution. It offered a more cost-effective solution, easier integration, and better customer support for our complex client needs. The timeXtender team worked with us throughout the process to make sure we could create a success story that was repeatable for our clients, and they proved great partners.

• Assisting new employees with understanding our DB
• Reduce debugging and testing time with being able to visualize data/queries
