OpenText Threat Detection and Response vs. SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server

In the current lot of hundreds of SIEM solutions out there in the market, ArcSight ESM is fairly less expensive with strong fundamentals in place. The log ingestion, correlation are very well performing and totally worth ROI. However, the tool has lost its way when it comes to staying abreast with current feature curve of SIEM technology and the evolution has not been done by MicroFocus. Search times are high and there is no major plug-in that has been introduced as part of the product life cycle.

To monitor syslog events Kiwi syslog much helpful and needed .Its saving human efforts and cost.Easy to check on GUI panel flow and status of server ,start and stop services we can do them from GUI panel it self . Recent version also no need C++ libraries to install .We can store the ingested events and archive based on our threshold criteria .We can import and export INI file which contain everything what we have configured

• Integration with smart logger and ESM to create rules and easy management of the same.
• Easy integration with all end point security management tool(IPS/IDS, Firewall, Anti-Virus) and their consolidated output at a single place to effectively rectifying true and false positives.

• Collection of SNMP traps a reliable and stable collection server for these is crucial to troubleshooting and time to ROS. Kiwi excels at this.
• Easy to install set up and train users on.
• The free version is a good free tool and handy to use for personal labs and other smalle use cases.
• SNMP traps to user readable format is great, sometimes syslog and smnp messages can be hard to interpret and read with out a knowledge of how to do this.

• It is slow comparing to any other SIEM Tool.
• We have to create filter for each alerts need some custom filter .
• Here we dont have any single tab for see all the alerts .also need some attractive features for dashboard.

• Minimalistic; If you're looking for something with analysis features look elsewhere.
• Operating System support is Windows only.
• Some management features cannot be configured via web interface.

Overall, it is a good investment in order for an organization to stay compliant and stay secure from all the wild things happening. It is definitely a cost effective tool with some good features including correlation, log storage, reporting and dashboards. If a customer is looking for advanced set of features, then I would highly not recommend this.

Kiwi Syslog has the best usability of any syslog server. While not being able to offer the most features, the ones it does have are intuitive and easy to work with. Everything that it has is where you think it should be. If you can't find it in the menus, it doesn't exist.

I personally haven't reached the support team, however, the engineers never complained about the Arcsight support team. We had some issues with the tool in the past but every time we reached the support, all issues were resolved in a timely manner.

Because the solution is so simple to use and implement, support wasn't very necessary. The one time I did call them to better understand where logs were stored, they were very helpful and friendly. Kiwi has been around for some time and not a lot has changed over the years, so support for it is pretty straightforward and quick.

Multiple platforms are already supported by Arcsight. Support is good. Scripts can be used to get data from multiple threat intel sources & the same can be used in correlation rules to detect any suspicious activity. Reporting features are good & you can check any backdated information within new clicks.

PRTG is a great package and very useful, but the jump from the free 100 sensor price model to the first tier of the paid model is WAY too expensive. SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is very inexpensive and provides us with the results we needed for log monitoring.

• Logger helps us to decrease incident response times.
• It also decreased our project times with the man/day calculations. Before this solution, it may take up to 10 men/days to do something. After this, it becomes nearly half of the time.

• Its provides centralized console for Server and Network devices log collection, reducing need of two separate Log collectors.
