Panorama Necto vs. Splunk Cloud Platform

Panorama Necto 14 is well suited where BI is built to support social collaboration so that its analytics features can be shared to improve decision making by incorporating various organizational input. Additionally it supports an infographic display for information review which is unlike most of its competitors.

Splunk is excellent when all your data is in one location. Its ability to correlate all that data is intuitive (once the hurdle of learning the query language is overcome). It is also easy to standardize the presentation of information to the company. When data is siloed/standalone, other systems can be cheaper and faster to implement.

• Comes with lot of option to modify and build the smart infographic. Uses innovative pictures and charts to create the dashboards
• Helps you identify why you are succeeding and where you should shift your focus to.
• The maps are amazing and they just don’t act as control points rather you can populate various measures on them making it really efficient to understand the business in geographical info graph

• This SIEM consolidates multiple data points and offers several features and benefits, creating custom dashboards and managing alert workflows.
• Splunk Cloud provides a simple way to have a central monitoring and security solution. Though it does not have a huge learning curve, you should spend some time learning the basics.
• Splunk Cloud enables me to create and schedule statistical reports on network use for Management.

• This tool is relatively new to the current competitive BI market. Many organizations or business analyst are not yet aware of it's eye catching features.
• Need more enhancement for predictive analysis.
• Publishing reports as email attachment and mail server configuration is a little complicated process.

• The SPL programming language that the queries are built in is not very intuitive.
• There should be a better repository of pre-built queries for what I would think of as common Active Directory usage monitoring.
• I would like to see more free training/familiarization information made available.

Some features are very basic and sometimes you can't add your own SQL query for custom reports. For Macs and Blackberry users this application is not helpful. Non-languages are not supported in info-graphics. They need to improve their forecast analysis. Report sharing is limited among the portal users only

It provides all the features that are required and some that are not the basic requirements, but they represent a great additional capabilities, not available within the similar products

What it does well:

- Powerful SPL query language for advanced users

- Excellent visualization dashboards

- Comprehensive documentation and community support

Where it needs work:

- Steep learning curve for SPL syntax

- Non-Intuitive UI for beginners

- Complex administration and data model configuration

- Search performance degrades with poor query optimization

Bottom line: Enterprise-grade tool requiring dedicated training investment. Best for teams with experienced analysts.

Support provider are very attentive.

Splunk Cloud support is sorely lacking unfortunately. The portal where you submit tickets is not very good and is lacking polish. Tickets are left for days without any updates and when chased it is only sometimes you get a reply back. I get the feeling the support team are very understaffed and have far too much going on. From what I know, Splunk is aware of this and seem to be trying to remedy it.

This is the next generation BI tool, which will be very helpful for small and medium businesses to kick start data exploration and visualization of their diverse databases, with less intervention from IT. This tool is more end user centric and gives way more power to the end user to perform data analysis

Search Processing Language really is a game changer for writing easy-to-understand and maintainable queries on your data base logs. Once understood, setting up and validating a query can be done in no time- which leaves us the option to focus on more monitoring and improved services. We have no other tools that utilizes data this efficiently
