Ranorex vs. Visual Studio App Center (discontinued)

Personally I rate it a 10 from my own experience, but from a company perspective, I would drop that to perhaps an 8. This is because while I have fun while finding it extremely easy to use and comprehensive enough, there have been times that relative to the project currently in works, Ranorex has not performed due to its shortcomings. If asked though I would certainly fully recommend Ranorex to a potential user, especially to someone less skilled in this field.

Honestly, it's an all around solution that needs some enhancements. Need to build an app, check! Need to test that app, check! Need to debug that app, check! Visual Studio App Center is a well rounded platform for multiple types of builds and services.

• User guide.
• Getting money from customers.

• It supplies the right native integration for test cases both IOS and Android
• Constant device updates means you are working with the right builds to support product use cases
• Excels in automated test cases that are easy to implement, monitor, and digest results

• Language support is limited, c# and Vb.net only if i remember correctly compared to other tools which allow many more. This addition would certainly be appreciated if added on in a company like mine with a variety of differently skilled individuals
• Paid license. This is not always preferred. A free version without a limited trial but maybe limited features would be appreciated.

• Webview support was lacking
• User management seems a bit disconnected from the standard Microsoft ecosystem. Almost feels like you are managing local users and sharing access more than an enterprise solution
• Price could be better
• Buggy on some of the latest versions of windows

I suppose my experience is sort of mixed. Help documents are substantially helpful. I personally have not got the quickest responses from Ranorex support but at the same time, they are pretty good with updating their users frequently with info about their product/s and features. The community is really where I find support and I suppose that could look to be an extension of the product itself.

We have used Selenium as well. This has picked up more steam than Ranorex if i have to be honest.

The biggest benefit is in integrations and plug-ins, as well as the fact that it's not open source. I know open source is popular, but we have all been on the downside of open source and waiting for things to be voted up or a contribution to fix an issue. This alone makes VSAC a nice solution! Plus, it comes with a complete IDE integration of services, documentation, and is light weight

• We were left without a working solution so the whole project had to been stopped.

• Cut down on time to delivery enhancements and overall builds to users
• Helps test new proposed releases with ease
• Cuts down on local build issues as it does do a good job with local development environments as well
