Symantec Encrypted Traffic Management vs. Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security

The Blue Coat encrypted traffic management system is still one of better tools to control, monitor, and secure internet use by employees on a company's network.

Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security is well suited for bigger companies with huge numbers of incoming and outgoing emails. It is really easy to configure, and once setup, there is not much to be done. So this requires minimal administration efforts. However, as the reporting is weak, if this is essential for a company, then it would be better to look into other alternatives.

• Deep Discovery analyzer provides sandboxing and deep threat analyses
• DLP capabilities are also good. It has a number of pre defined DLP templates
• Works very well against targeted attacks
• Lowers impact at the email gateway as it filters away the email in the cloud

Blue Coat Encrypted Traffic Management gives you a means to layered control internet accesses to differentiate teams or groups accordingly.

Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security is much cheaper than Kasprsky Security for Email Server. Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security is easier to install and the maintenance effort required is much less than this required by Kasprsky Security for Email Server. However Kasprsky Security for Email Server does have a better GUI and does indeed offer a better protection degree. However, taking into account that both were tested behind a firewall, most of the threats had already been eliminated there...

• Definitely the tools give us a better means to manage internet usage.
• With other network tools/appliances, it protects company's assets.
