What is AlliedWare Plus?

AlliedWare Plus is a next-generation operating system designed specifically for IoT and SDN-enabled networks. According to the vendor, it offers advanced functionality, scalability, performance, and reliability, making it a potential solution for small, medium, and large enterprises. Network engineers, IT managers, system administrators, telecommunication companies, and education institutions are among the professionals and industries that the vendor says can benefit from the features and capabilities of AlliedWare Plus.

Key Features

Autonomous Management Framework Plus (AMF Plus): This feature aims to provide unified network management across the network from any device and offers graphical management with Vista Manager. The vendor claims that it also supports private or public cloud deployment options with AMF Plus Cloud, simplifies and automates tasks through network automation, and reacts to changes within the network by automatically changing the network topology. Additionally, the vendor states that it offers automatic backup, restore, and recovery of devices as they are added to the network.

Autonomous Management Framework Security (AMF-Sec): According to the vendor, this feature adds a security component with an intelligent SDN controller. It is said to work with security applications to respond to alerts and block the movement of malware within the network. The vendor also claims that AMF-Sec partners with firewall and security appliances to identify threats, isolates the affected part of the network, and quarantines the suspect device. It is said to provide configurable responses and comprehensive logging for auditing.

VCStack, VCStack Plus, and VCStack-LD: These features aim to provide consistent switch stacking from the edge to the large-network core. The vendor claims that they offer high availability features for stacks of chassis switches and can scale up to stacked pairs of 12-slot dual-controller chassis with full table synchronization for unicast and multicast forwarding and control planes. VCStack, VCStack Plus, and VCStack-LD are also said to support multiprotocol, multilayer, and multiplane synchronization, enabling stack members to be kilometers apart with VCStack-LD for distributed network environments.

Ethernet Protected Switching Ring (EPSRing): This feature aims to provide an advanced, resilient ring solution with failover times as low as 50ms. It is said to operate across a wide range of enterprise and metro products, bringing network resilience to Ethernet-based networks. The vendor claims that EPSRing enables rapid link failure recovery without complexity and expense.

Active Fiber Monitoring (AFM): According to the vendor, AlliedWare Plus pioneers this technology that provides specialized data protection on optical links. AFM is said to offer non-stop, automated monitoring of optical fiber and detects intrusions by detecting changes in the amount of light received on a fiber link. It is claimed to raise an alarm and can automatically shut down the link or alert an operator for intervention. AFM is also said to have simple configuration with "set and forget" capability.

Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+): This feature aims to eliminate the need for a separate power connection to media endpoints and provide flexibility to connect devices requiring more power. The vendor claims that PoE+ supports PoE++ for switches that can provide up to 60 Watts per port. Additionally, Continuous Power-over-Ethernet (CPoE) is said to guarantee uninterrupted PoE power delivery even during switch reboots.
