It is used for troubleshooting Azure Cloud related Network issue. Useful tools such as Topology, Connection Monitor, Network Performance Monitor and Next Hop are extremely beneficial. It has helped us with diagnosing specific issues related to Network. We use this for our entire Azure Tenant Environment and also for some On-premise Connectivity such as Express Route Monitoring.
  • Assists us in verifying IP Flow inbound and outbound from IAAS Resources.
  • Allows us to view the effective security rule on a Network Security Group and the IAAS Resource.
  • Visualize your Traffic Patterns and security via the Traffic Analytics tool
  • Allows for deep packet captures for analysis.
  • More granular visualization through the Azure Network. Ex. Seeing NSG Flow through each Hop.
  • Allow for more capabilities to view Connectivity through On-Premise Networks.
For use of the Azure Cloud Network, Azure Network Watcher is a must. The component Traffic Analytics is specifically helpful and is a great tool to use analyze your network IPs, Ports, Flow, and Logs. When you need more data about your network, Azure Network Watcher removes the guess work with data that you can analyze.

  • Helped us diagnose IP and Port flow from a DNS integration project resulting in success of the project
  • Has helped numerous times analyzing IP Port flow from Resources
I really have not experiences with Solarwinds in the Azure Public Cloud. I would believe Solarwinds would have a good product in comparison. However with my experiences with Azure Tools, I do not think I would be inclined to go that route unless a reason presents itself. I am satisfied with Azure Network Watcher.

Currently, we are using the Azure Network Watcher to capture packet data from the virtual systems and monitor the traffic and performance of Load balancers in the Cloud.
  • Monitor endpoints Health for Azure Traffic Manager
  • Monitor VM Machine resources
  • Deliver reports for IT department
  • Agent can't be installed in some VM Appliance machines
  • Improve the dashboard & graphics
  • Improve the API integration
Monitor endpoints Health for Azure Traffic Manager is always well done by Azure Network Watcher. For some specific Virtual appliance machines, the Azure Network Watcher is not suitable due to interoperability with the vendor.

  • We could disable some NPM systems on-premise
Azure Network Watcher can help with resources in the Cloud if this device is able to send traffic. We are using Azure Network Watcher in cases Solarwinds can't cover easily like API to load balancers & additional testing.

We are using Azure Network Watcher for various purpose in our organization, we have multiple on-premises official websites in various locations hence using Azure Network watcher to monitor, view metrics, setting up alerts, repairing health of IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) products like load balancer, virtual machines etc. Azure Network watcher has a wide scope in networking area.
  • Monitoring network traffic logs
  • Monitor/Diagnose communication between virtual machines
  • Reasonable Pricing
  • Security measures can be improved
  • Initial Setup process is complex and should be simplified
  • User interface can be improved
Azure Network Watcher is well suited to monitor or diagnose logs for azure virtual network, managing connection/relationship between virtual networks. Diagnose network traffic, network traffic etc. Overall, it is appropriate to use in monitoring, diagnostic and logging activities for resources in azure virtual network. It is mainly used in infrastructure as a service component.

I used it to monitor, diagnose and view metrics for resources in Azure Network Watcher's virtual network (Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Application Gateways, Load balancers, etc..). The most important features that I used are: IP flow to verify if a packet is allowed/denied to/from a VM and next-hop to monitor traffic from between the VM and destination based on the effective routes associated with a network interface nic.
  • View resources and theri relationship
  • Diagnose network routing problems
  • View security rules for a network interface
  • Capture packets
  • Diagnose network traffic filtering problems
  • Diagnose ngs rules
Azure Network Watcher is well-suited for cloud environment, it's necessary for the network troubleshooting. It is especially useful in where you have done integration with azure virtual wan and custom routes (udr) to control traffic in a hub & spoke network with Azure firewall. When the traffic is manipulated with udr, the troubleshooting at the routing level becomes important in some cases.

  • Less time spent on network troubleshooting
Azure Network Watcher is built into Azure and is much more powerful, less expensive. Microsoft is investing heavily in its cloud solutions and cloud service, Microsoft is always becoming a leader in this area. The strong integration and ease of use via blades from the azure portal also makes it quick to learn.
