What is CodeRabbit?

CodeRabbit is an AI-assisted Code Review platform for examining software changes before they are merged. It combines repository context, language-model analysis, and static analysis tools to produce review comments, change summaries, and proposed fixes in developers’ existing workflows.

CodeRabbit’s Coding Agent takes natural-language instructions and performs cloud-based coding tasks on a repository, including implementing changes, fixing bugs, and adding regression tests. Developers can request a plan before implementation, follow and steer the agent from the CLI, and deliver changes as commits or a separate pull request. It also accepts handoffs from local Codex or Claude Code sessions. Optional Autopilot publishes completed changes and follows up on review findings, failing CI checks, and merge conflicts.

Key Capabilities
  • Pull-request reviews: CodeRabbit analyzes changes for potential bugs, security issues, and maintainability problems. Reviews include summaries, walkthroughs, contextual suggestions, and changes that developers can apply directly.
  • Repository-aware analysis: Review execution uses an isolated cloud environment with the repository available for investigation. Integrated linters and security scanners complement AI analysis.
  • Review configuration: Teams define review behavior through repository files or administrative settings. Path-specific instructions and stored feedback adapt reviews to project conventions.
  • Fix implementation: Autofix turns unresolved review findings into changes on the current branch or a separate stacked pull request. Developers can follow and steer the task, then inspect the resulting patch.
  • Local feedback and change management: IDE extensions and a command-line tool review work before a pull request is opened. Platform features also help prioritize review queues and organize large changes into smaller logical groups.

Audience & Use Cases
CodeRabbit serves developers, reviewers, and engineering leads. Uses include reviewing human- or agent-generated code, checking changes against team standards, investigating defects, and implementing corrections identified during review.

Technical Specifications
  • Git integrations: GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket.
  • Developer interfaces: Web application, command-line tool, and extensions for Visual Studio Code, Cursor, and Windsurf.
  • Configuration: YAML or TypeScript files, centralized configuration repositories, and organization or repository settings.
  • Security options: Eligible plans include continuous pull-request security review. Separately metered AI Deep Scan examines committed source code and infrastructure configuration for vulnerabilities and exposed secrets.
