Cube was a win for FP&A and Reporting for our organization.

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube was just what we needed to gain quick and easy access to financial analytics plus easier report building! We use an accounting system that had reporting capabilities but building those was cumbersome and inefficient. Cube helped us make this entire process easy. Cube also allowed for easier budgeting and forecasting and we are still in the process of spreading our wings into other Cube possibilities.

Pros

  • Report Building
  • Budgeting
  • Financial Analysis/Segments

Cons

  • Implementation was rough at first
  • Continued improvement capabilities with dashboards

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is best as a supplement for anyone used to using Excel that wants to develop specific reporting that their accounting system does not support, or that is inefficient. Cube is likely best for middle market but I can see a use case for a larger platform as well.

I don't think Cube's price point is great for small business and I don't think it would be a user friendly if someone was not at least proficient in excel.

Great Financial Reporting Tool for Startups

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cube for BvAs and other routine financial reporting. Each month we import the latest GL and transaction data into Cube and refresh existing templates to automatically pull the latest numbers. We also use Cube as a repository for business KPIs for a source of truth to import into financial models.

Pros

  • Lots of flexibility with creating new scenarios, accounts, or other dimensions
  • Easy to manage data due to Excel and Google Sheets integrations
  • Customer support is typically responsive and helpful

Cons

  • Importing GL data is still not an automated process
  • Lacking functionality for headcount planning
  • Lacking functionality for forecasting within Cube

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is well-suited to help save time on financial reporting if you need to refresh the same templates each month. It is also great for building templates and pulling in data directly from Excel or Google Sheets.

Cube is less appropriate for larger scale companies - we've run into issues with uploading large sets of transaction data and it does not have as robust planning or forecasting features that you'd find in other FP&A tool competitors.

Super Intuitive - an easy one source of truth for excel FP&A advocates

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Use Cube for all of our Sage actual reporting as well as all forward looking financial forecats (rolling monthly, budgets, long term plans)

Pros

  • Publishing data for forecasts
  • Intergrate with ERP for Actuals
  • Customer Support

Cons

  • Some formatting of how data is pulled should be able to be pre formatted
  • Better dashboards (think PowerBI or Tableau)
  • A project mgmt tool is essential for FP&A - eg. tracking progress of budgets etc

Likelihood to Recommend

Best suited for businesses not ready or looking to move away from excel. Its super intuitive if you even have basic pivot table knowledge meaning you can get the rest of the non finance teams transitioned and using it really quickly.

Not super easy to track changes or manage forecasting projects like budgets to see who has published and who needs chasing.

Easy implementation & perfect for our growing Finance function

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have implemented Cube as the FP&A team across the wider commercial Finance team at our organisation to help us to take control of our management data. It is supporting is across the full scope of our work in FP&A - reporting actuals, budget and forecasting. Cube is enabling us to have a reliable historical source of management information, which is a huge time-saver and helping us to focus on trend analysis. In addition, we are able to actualise our forecasts via a system rather than complicated, error-prone Excel formulas which opens up much deeper insight to our performance as a business.

Pros

  • Easy & quick implementation with outstanding customer support
  • Exceptional compatibility with Excel allows for much easier training and adoption by the business
  • Built with the FP&A & Finance user in mind

Cons

  • Additional flexibility in Excel reporting (although the product team regularly release new functionality)
  • More data formatting options available in the add-in (e.g. retrieving data in thousands or as a %)

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is particularly well-suited to small to mid-size organisations who are relatively early in transforming their Finance function to make use of cloud-based technologies. If until now the organisation has been based out of spreadsheets, Cube is an excellent choice for stepping into an FP&A system. The easy implementation, fantastic customer support and ease of manipulating existing Excel (or G-Sheet) reports to interface with Cube really stands out against other available softwares.

Intuitive & Powerful - Helps support a scrappy FP&A team

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Quickbooks Online doesn't have a robust or flexible budget capability, and filling that gap is what led me to Cube. I'm able to fully house budget and forecast scenarios, run reports and analytics, all within Cube. It's easy to shift a couple parameters, hit update, and refesh your report in the same place to run different scenarios. I tend to use it more frequently than the accounting software's built in reports, and now I've extended its capabilities beyond just budgets and into revenue and payroll. We tie all these things together to go beyond budgeting and into forecasting, planning, etc.

Pros

  • Intuitive - it acts as an extension of programs you're already familiar with, Excel and Sheets. There's no programming language to learn, no complicated portals to work within. If you don't know BI, you don't need to learn it. You can "Cube-ify" your existing spreadsheets, or build from the ground up. The functionality is similar to the way pivot tables work, so it's intuitive to learn and use.
  • Powerful - It wrangles all our different streams of data from different places and you're able to control it with a few clicks from an Excel sidebar
  • A huge shout out to the support team as well. I always have a dedicated rep at hand for help (what's up Riley!); the support articles are genuinely useful, which is refreshing for finance software; & they're always looking for product feedback to help adapt the roadmap to what's actually needed.

Cons

  • The only flaw that I find is something they've communicated that they're constantly working to improve, which is speed to load or fetch data. It can be time consuming to update and process a bunch of different reports. However, some important caveats: some of the lag is due to the way our company structure is set up; I have been able to re-design/architect my reports/sheets with speed in mind & to make things more efficient, and that's gone a long way; Cube has already improved the speed of fetching noticeably since I first got setup. I expect it will only continue to improve until it's no longer even noticeable.

Likelihood to Recommend

1) The budget process. In QBO the budgeting capability is non-existant, unless you like manually typing in every scenario and not being able to budget by class. Cube houses my budget/forecast scenarios & lets me view and analyze by my company's preferred data points; department, GL account, vendor, & sales campaign. I'm able to run monthly budget variance reports and plan for the future with ease.

2) We've begun using Cube to help analyze profitablity by sales job. We've never had such easy access to this type of info in the past, so this is a benefit I can directly attribute to Cube.

3) We're beginning now to use an integration with our payroll software to work on headcount planning and payroll analysis.

A must have for all FP&A professionals growing their business

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my experience with FP&A software tools, Cube has proven to be the most reliable and flexible I have ever used. I previously switched roles and decided to use Cube again at my new company. I use it every day and the support staff is always on call. I have used Cube to build out full reporting packages for multiple ELT/SLT level users and consolidated financial systems using this tool.

Pros

  • Data implementation
  • P&L Reporting
  • Easy of use

Cons

  • More admin passes
  • Alphabetical ordering of vendors/customers/etc on website

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is well suited for any FP&A team to build up their financial reporting packages and maintaining a singular source of truth. The different scenario analysis within Cube is extremely beneficial in budgeting, forecast, and all other long term planning.

Great product at a reasonable price!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube allows us to pull our financials from QuickBooks into our various models for monthly close and scenario analysis. We were able to customize our mapping and account hierarchy to fit the business use case. Cube's native gsheet and excel addons are a game changer which allows us to pipe the data directly into a sheet for further manipulation.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Simple interface
  • Addons for gsheets and excel

Cons

  • Import times
  • Modeling functionality

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is really good at getting your financial data from Quickbooks (or any other journal software) into gsheets or excel. It's not as good when it comes to complex modeling in my opinion.

Easy implemtation & overall ease of use

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cube daily on our team. It's the core system we use for all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, expense management, and strategic reporting. We have had a pretty seamless integration and we are able to quickly turn over reports to management. Prior to utilizing Cube we operated on a more robust planning software but as our contract was expiring we recognized the need for a more simple approach. Cube has delivered.

Pros

  • Customer Service
  • Ease of Use
  • Ease of Integration

Cons

  • Fetching "0s" instead of blank rows
  • More robust dashboarding
  • Scenario planning

Likelihood to Recommend

The interface of Cube is easy to use and it allows for our FP&A team to do our own custom reporting instead of being locked into the format of a more complex platform. Cube recently rolled out overnight syncing, so with an overnight auto-import setup, we can start fresh each morning knowing the data we're working with is live and updated.

Great product, Easy to use, Excel based!

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Department level budgeting, budget vs actual, annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasting. Cube has been essential in our budgeting process and is extremely simple to use. We needed an excel based system (not google sheets or web based) that we can implement quickly. It is simple to create custom reports on the fly and easy to review financial performance by department.

Pros

  • Integration was extremely simple
  • Since Cube is excel based it was easy to "cubify" our existing budgets, forecasts, and models
  • Easy to create custom reports on the fly

Cons

  • Online dashboard could be more robust
  • Would like the ability for department leaders to see budget vs actual on the online dashboard

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube has given us the ability to create and monitor detailed department level budgeting and financial performance to budget. It is easy to drill down into GL level data in excel for review without having to go back into our ERP.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The customer service and account manager are very helpful and responsive throughout the course. However there are still issues with connector between Netsuite and CUBE after over 8 months from signup. The so-called direct integration hasn't really been working. It requires manual fix every time after I initiate an uploaded. The team hasn't been able to troubleshoot the root cause until now.

Pros

  • Excellent customer service

Cons

  • direct connection should be working every single time seamlessly

Likelihood to Recommend

CUBE probably works better on excel based data without any integration of other software. Based on my experience so far the connector with other software is very buggy.
